Parise - Koivu - Granlund
Heatley - Cullen - Setoguchi
Mitchell - Brodziak - Clutterbuck
Powe - Konopka - Kassian/Veilleux

Suter - Gilbert
Scandella - Brodin
Spurgeon - Stoner

Backstrom
Harding

That is a legitimate playoff team. They'll probably move Bouchard out now and grab another #4/5 guy (Kubina or Hannan would be my guess)
That defense is laughably bad.

We'll see about the playoffs.

Is the NW the new Central division now? At least we won't hear PJ talk about our "easy division"

I know. That's why I said in a few years...

Thanks, though.

I noticed he was trying to cover his bases a few hours before and say there is now a chance they might go to minny, now i expect him to fire off twitter sentences about how things changed and what he heard about them maybe signing with minny started to ramp up recently.

He might have a some sources, but he has alot of bad ones full of gossip.

People here are way overrating Minnesota. This is a team that fluked its way to a really good start and still finished 14 points out of a playoff spot. Even with the additions they have bad forward depth and below average defencemen.

Suter is a top10 maybe top 5 defencemen, but Parise isn't even a top 20 forward in the league. They'll be fighting for the playoffs but they are in no way threatening for the top spot in the conference.

ummm, Schultz?

Way too much for Parise imo, could be the next Gomez or Drury. Suter is a good deal, if the term doesn't blow up in their face.

Definitely improved their team though, although they've had troubles recently with key guys being injured. They're now our biggest challenge in the division and should make the playoffs.

Way I rate the division:

Vancouver
Minnesota
Colorado
Edmonton
Calgary

I don't find Edmonton all that scary, even with all their FOA picks. Every time I look at their roster I thank the hockey gods that they had 3 straight FOA and didn't get a generational talent with any of them.

I think that having a competitive division is better for the Canucks. This team develops too many bad habits during the regular season as it is virtually guaranteed a top 3 seed. Having to fight for the division is a very good thing as it prepares us for the playoffs. I think Minnesota is probably still a year away because of their defence but they should be much better this year. Colorado is starting to look good and I'm not sure that Tambo/Lowe can screw up Edmonton so they should see a decent jump this year. Calgary on the other hand.....

I think the added competition helps get the boys focused, honestly.

Too much complacency on this team and it showed last year.

Today is a good day to be Shane Doan. Actually probably most days are, but you know what I mean.

Truly, if there is one fanbase in the league due for some good fortune it is the Wild fans. Year after year they sell out the arena to see illustrious players like Wes Walz and Darby Hendrikson. Now it looks like they'll have a fun, dominant team for awhile.

Hopefully this unfreezes the FA market

I wonder if they still consider us their biggest rival.

Our division just had a huge arms race.

#1 - VAN - too much depth everywhere
#2 - COL - 3 scoring lines, bad defense, good goaltender
-----------------------------------------------------------------
#3 - MIN - 1 top scoring line, 1 top d-pair, good system, playoffs next next year
#4 - CGY - perfectly stuck in mediocrity
#5 - EDM - Score 5, let in 6.

Maybe for one year, but I've no doubt the league will reallign the season after and they'll forget about teams outside the new Central

I wouldn't look at it quite yet, I don't think Gillis is done tweaking our roster.

Quick what's Schneiders stats against Minny. Don't need another Luongo meltdown.

What does Detroit do? Are they regressing to a point of no longer being one of the top teams? We'll see just how good of a GM Holland is now!

This offseason's free agency really gives me another layer of appreciation for our contracts. Sedins for 6.1M each? Kesler for 5? Burrows for 2? Hamhuis for 4.5? Hansen at 1.35? Hell, even Luongo @ 5.33 is looking amazing.

Alex Semin and Matt Carle will be Red Wings by the end of next week.

Must seem like a foreign concept.
In recent decades, but they did it (losing) for about 25 years before that.

This is pretty much a fact. Luongo will be moved for something - I personally think that something depends on how the Doan situation plays out. I think the Canucks are very interested and would like to sign him; if he signs, they deal Luongo for a combination of picks/prospects, building towards the future as there are no longer any obvious holes on the current roster. (maybe even give us some more assets towards acquiring Shea Weber...?)

If the Doan situation does not work out, that means we need to address the top-six situation via a trade, and that changes the return we would need for Luongo.

Just realized Pariese got 7.5. He is good but 7.5 puts him top of the league. That ain't no discount and that is an over payment.

The importance of locking up your core to reasonable contracts. Gillis is planning on talking extensions with Burrows and Edler by the end of the summer as well.
