Parise's contract is starting to make Ovi look like a bargain.

I agree its nice minny got both of them, but i dont think they improve that much, maybe get the 7 or 8 seed in the playoffs, The pens screwed up big time, trading staal away and trading michalek.

Minnesota should make the playoffs anyhow, though I've got to think that one of Setoguchi/Bouchard may be moved for cap reasons. They'll also likely be adding Granlund to their lineup and Coyle before long.

They won't be real contenders until their top 4D are better overall but they wanted to make a splash and they certainly have.

Hand was forced on Staal. Better than losing him for nothing like some GM would have...

Disagree. Looking at GD is WAY too over-simplistic.

They're also adding Granlund. They won't be a contender next year, but in a couple of years they could be. They have some other very good prospects.

What do you want to look at? They were ****ing terrible. Koivu missed fewer games than Backstrom did.

Their actual roster maybe?

They had all off Koivu, Backstrom, and Bouchard miss 25+ games. They'll probably move Setoguchi for a depth defenseman and have a pretty well-rounded roster.

A healthy Wild team is comfortably in the playoffs.

Not last year they weren't. They had one 17-4 stretch, and outside of that they were 18-43.

That's not bad, that's Edmonton bad. And when you're looking at sample sizes, 61>>>21

Edit: not fair to Edmonton. Not even fair to Columbus. That's just plain attrocious.

So you don't think adding a top-20 forward, a top-10 defenseman, and getting 20 more games out of three of their previous 4 best players will dramatically improve their results?

I think with average health they will be an average team. With average health last year, they were an attrocious team.

So starting goalie missing half the season, top-6 forward missing half the season, and captain and best player missing 30 games is average health?

If you think keeping your entire top 6 healthy for 82 games is average, I don't know what to tell you.

We didn't have Backstrom longer than they didn't have Koivu, We didn't have Green, Vokoun and Neuvirth both had injuries and I don't think we were that unlucky.

Its the NHL. Players miss games. Especially in their 30s.

Not keeping your entire top 6 healthy for 82 games =/= two of the top 3 players in your top 6 missing 30 games.

They didn't have average health. They had below average health.

And now they've done more to help their team this off-season than any other team in the NHL.

Beyond Suter and Parise, they added a good 4th line center in Konopka, and a very good 3rd line winger in Mitchell. They'll also likely add two very good rookies in Brodin and Granlund.

Who else has improved in the West?

Guys, lets not celebrate too early, this could light some fire under their ass for Ryan.

Not sure if they have the assets, but Ryan>>>>>>Parise.

The Wild also got Coyle, who knows if he makes the jump.

LOL at Pitt for missing out on those 2.

If Semin is toxic, shouldn't we want him to go there?

I for one do not want to see him in a Pens uni. There are gifted a ton of PP's and he will get a lot of PPP.

You would think our Dmen know how to take him out no matter where he goes. Only our D don't play physical with anyone so against him would be no different.

Didn't say they didn't improve. I just think improving, with average health, will mean they're in the 5-8 range. And they don't have near the depth for a cup run.

I don't see why attempting to resign Semin is such a dangerous move.

Now that we have a proper 2C. Does Semin really want to live in Detroit?

I'm sure he will command less than 7 million. We can afford him for 5 years at 6.8 million given the Parise deal was 13 years at 7.5. Semin's nearly as good and he's young enough. 5 years isn't a big deal, and we can resign Rib next year.

For heavens sake, don't let Pit get him.

Both teams in the Cup final were in the 5-8 range.

In today's NHL, making the playoffs means being a contender.

I imagine you think the Caps will finish 1st in the East then, or at least comfortably make the playoffs with the current roster atm?

Top 5 center in the league injured for half the year

Best offensive defensemen in the league injured for 50 games

Add a top 20 center in the league through trade

Better goalie this year than last

Better coach this year than last

Further development from young players (Carlson, Alzner, Orlov, Holtby, Johansson, Perreault)

K sounds good. Wild vs Caps SCF next year.
