Weber puts this team as the Cup front runner for half a decade, more so then Suter, Parise could ever dream of. Four low end first rounders is chump change for a top three defenseman in the NHL. The fact that the Hawks prospect list is as deep as it is, its a no brainer to consider.
Signing Weber to an offer sheet would only help Nashville. They'd match any deal and have him locked up.

Nashville will match any number we throw at them.

Then let them. Play powerball with them the same way Wilson did to that horrendous contract Hammer signed. Then, it pisses off Weber for being stuck there.

It works both ways, and the only team that looks smart would be the Hawks. Which, would be a huge upgrade considering how much Blowman looks like a puppet for McNostrils.

Hence, Weber won't sign one as others have pointed out already.

This. Right here. By signing an offer sheet, he'd essentially be signing an extension with Nashville, which I'm reasonably certain, he simply doesn't want to do...especially with Suter having departed. I seriously wouldn't be shocked to see more high end free agents teaming up with other UFA's that same summer...pairing up to go to a single destination. I think hitting the UFA market for most players these days is a once in a lifetime experience that they don't want to pass up on...even if, like Martin Brodeur, they end up in the same place.

That's going to change with the new CBA. I guarantee you're not going to be seeing any 13 year contracts anymore.

Just signed one with Philly. 4 low firsts is a small price to pay for Weber.

Considering they will more than likely be mid-20 picks, very cheap price.

Pekka Rinne might go hide in a cave in Finnish Lapland for the next 7 years if Weber leaves for Philly.

I can't think of a better partner for Leddy. Gotta love Holmgrem, guy is running his team like a video game.

Anyone who wouldn't want Bowman to do the same thing either...
A. Doesn't understand how good Shea Weber is
B. Doesn't understand what our team is lacking

Why is having the best D in the NHL a bad thing?
Keith-Weber
Seabrook-Hjalmarsson
Leddy-Brookbank

That is stacked and will be for a VERY long time. Ship out Opoopya, Montador and Frolik and the numbers are more than ok.

Weber is maybe the best d man in the league.

or you look at options c & d again.

That contract is not what the Hawks need with giving up 4 1sts. If it would be Crosby or Malkin, we sure as hell do this. Our need is a Top Center, not a #1 DMen

No our #1 need is reducing GA (which having better forward support in our own end would help) and special teams.

Weber fills all those needs. Yeah it's a long deal and I usually hate long deals but Weber is worth it.

4 1sts is fine if you're constantly contending for the Cup, Hawks have enough prospects as is.

yes we have and yes he is a good DMen - but I don't like that contract to Keiths and Hossas and possible Toews and Kanes going forward. If prospects pan out, they will get money too...
Leddy already has a good case to get 3+ million

You can't have a #1 goalie for more than 2 years for 2 million or less

We have no need for top end prospects on the back end with Weber, Seabrook and Keith locked up. If Leddy develops into a second pairing guy then move out Hammer and he becomes Seabrook's partner. Bubba, your line of reasoning is just so bad.

weber would absolutely make us a better team. his physical and good offensively and at the point on the PP. It would also allow d minutes to be spread way better and keep the whole corps fresher. We'd have hands down the best defense in the NHL as well.

that said, its not like we have any shot of getting him.

Leddy is a 2nd pairing PMD already... he will get his money soon enough.

Getting Weber, the player, would be good. Getting his contract is not what we need after shipping out Campbell for the same reason
