You mean the team that got swept in the Western Finals by the Ducks? Led by Gaborik and.............Pascal Dupuis and Andrew Brunette? Good players, but not that good. That's what I mean. They'll surround Parise and Suter with average players, the same way Calgary expects Iginla to carry the flames average roster every year.

02-03 was more a result of Lemaire getting the absolute most out of an average lineup with his defensive system, and Roloson playing lights out. They played a good team game, the same way teams like Edmonton and Calgary have done in the past but not done much damage. Teams never really have much success doing that consistently and going deep in the playoffs every year.

And yes, of course I know the difference between salary and a cap hit. The $7.5xxx cap hit is what I was referring to them being stuck with in their later years.

I really want to hear McGuire whine about how Parise should have picked Pittsburgh instead.

Red wings going after Nash per Eklund. They gonna have to give A LOT up if they wanna steal a division rival's superstar

I don't think 36 pts and -17 is anything to get excited about. He's a good player on par with say David Jones (the last 3 years anyways) and definitely needs to play with a solid playmaker.

I'm still unsure of the Avs actual interest and how much $$$$ and term he's gonna want...

On a side note, I think that if the Avs really want Matt Carle, he'll be an Av. Might cost too much though, we'll see shortly I think.

I don't think it is a matter of simply spending more money. The Avs have started to spend more this offseason. I think the concern the Avs have is not committing to long deals that may hamper their ability to retain their core down the road (EJ, Duchene, O'Reilly, Landeskog, Varlamov).

Most UFAs want long term deals like Suter and Parise.

They overachieved last year but yeah if we could trade our 2nd+ for a top 4 defenseman that would be great.

I doubt a 2nd round pick fetches us a top 4 D-man.. maybe, price will be high now.

i get that our D needs work but Semin doesn't stop us from improving it.
even more to the point, he's a two way forward so that partially helps the D as well. he and Carle would be a nice paring along with already having signed PAP.

I'd love to see it. That's not going to help their defense PLUS it's going to take actual NHL players to get it done....not just prospects and picks.

I'm not a big fan of Carle or Semin, but if we sign one of them to a reasonable deal ($5M or less for 3-4 years) I'm ok with it. They would add a significant amount of offensive skill to our team, something we need. I think we would be able to put them in a good spot to succeed.

I'm just not seeing where Semin would fit in at the price tag he'll likely want. McGinn/Stastny/Semin, perhaps? The other two scoring lines being Landeskog/O'Reilly/Downie and Jones/Duchene/Parenteau, sending the Duke to the 4th line?

Rather than going hard for Semin , I'd go hard for Carle. Johnson and 6 depth defensemen isn't much better than the poor Minnesota defense of Suter and 4-5 depth defensemen being mentioned here.

it would be wonderful for the Wings to lose out of Suter and Parise and then to have to fork over a fortune for Nash. even the Rangers won't meet the price for him and they normally will for a star to appease their fans.

The Avs try that every year to start the season, then realize it doesn't work, and play extremely tight to end the season. They need to find a better balance, and start the season that way.

Liles got a 2nd, Grossman also got a 2nd didn't he? I think we could get a decent defenseman.

I was thinking along these lines when someone mentioned them going after Yandle. What exactly do they have to offer up that's going to get that kind of deal done? Keeping in mind that they have to outbid the other interested parties (which, in Yandle's case, would be many).

He would be our best winger, there's a spot for him on this team.

If Carle gets 6 teh GM who gave him that needs to be fired, Semin's cap hit depends on the terms.
