Don't have and shouldn't be moving the assets here. Best route I see is to get a good defensive dman who can play 20 mins+ (eg Vlasic) who wouldn't cost as much as a no1 and then hope a couple prospects also develop into top4 or free agency later on.

Yes and Landeskog is a career grinder right?

So this is our team then guys?

Mcginn - Stastny - Jones
Landeskog - O'Reilly - Downie
Hejduk - Duchene - Parenteau
Mcleod - Mitchell - Kobasew
(Olver)

+ O'Brien - Johnson
Wilson - Zanon
Hejda - O'Byrne
(Hunwick)

Varlamov
Giguere

What would be your projected finish overall in the standings next year?

+ I footnote the above, because I have no idea who Sacco will play next to Johnson in Hunwick, Wilson, O'Brien or that other dude I've never heard of.

I think the Avs are still in on Semin, but if they get outbid for him too they'll go the trade route. Hopefully they can get someone like Ryan.

If we can have a healthy season and some players who I will not name keep it to 1 spin-o-ramma per game then I think we will probably finish in between 6-8

We are so ****ed That defense is going to get torn by teams like the Wild, Oilers, Nucks, Kings, etc.

Maybe Staal but I think he'll bolt. I wouldn't mind MacD or Alzner. Doubt either are traded without one of our centers heading the other way tho.

I'd want Alzner for sure, but they signed Ribiero.. so maybe not a center.

BUT, I think it will be the skillful teams that kill us off as upposed to the BIGGER teams that used to skate up our middle.

We've changed I guess. At least we'll be more gritty, so I'm assuming less blow-outs, but yeah, I don't know if say Crosby, Neal, Malkin, Letang & co. would shake with fear coming into Pepsi Center.

I think our team (as it presently stands) is good for 15th - 22nd overall. (Slim chance for play-offs)(Slim chance of bottom 5) - middle of the pack depending on goal tending, injuries and luck. Everything going well, we might JUST make a play off appearance. All things going poorly, we'll get the 7th-8th overall pick in next years draft.

Zero upgrades... just a lot of side stepping. Division got tougher...

...we'll be lucky to take 11th in the west.

The way we look right now, we better not trade away our 1st again! Probably not the 2nd, either.

At this point it looks like another non-playoff year. May be wrong but thats my first impression. Lets see what tomorrow brings.

Yeah, a 67 point guy is not an upgrade at all...

And neither is another 67 point guy coming back from injury and getting more mature...or any of our other young players getting more mature.

For that matter, a full year of McGinn and Downie are no upgrade whatsoever.

It's okay, at least we have a first overall pick to look forward to.

lol I hope they make a deal with Stastny to be trade bait and then come back to the team in 2 years after we steal some nice players via trade.

The first two, no. A high profile player landing in a pool of muck and mediocrity does not make for high octane offense. Neither do a bunch of fresh-eyed high-profile prospects.

We'll see about the Nucks.

Unfortunately, probably yes on the Kings.

Have some faith, people. This team is a lot better than it was a year ago at this point. And we just barely missed out on the playoffs last season. We're growing and getting better. We should have at least one legit star to brag about by end of season, that's worth getting hopeful.

I don't get the hate for the D core.

Yeah, its not great, but it is good enough to get the Avs to the playoffs...even moreso if Johnson takes the next step and/or Elliott/Barrie move up.

Really, all that D core is missing is a legit #2 guy...and yeah, if the Avs are going to move from playoff bubble team to legit contender, they will need someone to step into that role, the Avs goal this year is to simply take that next step forward into the playoffs.

The addition of PA along with a healthy Duchene and a motivated/happy Stastny should be more than enough to make it to the playoffs IMO.

And looking at it, the Yotes and Preds both took decent steps backwards over the summer... SJ showed signs of being a fading power last year... Detroit, while still having the potential to be a great team, lost the franchise D man...... Chicago also did not do much to fill its holes.... the only non-playoff team that made any other significant proven upgrades was Dallas.... so I think the odds of the Avs making the playoffs are decent.

Hahahaha, that ain't saying much though. It's like saying we came 30th in XXX year, but we are so much better now, because we are 28th THIS year.

Aaah the good old days - Vernace, Willsie, Hensick, Preissing, Arnason, Raycroft, Lindstrom, Wes O'neill, etc etc etc

Hey, you can't blame the organization for not giving the lower tier blokes a SHOT though, can we.

Well, they're missing a legit number one and two guy. We need Johnson to take a major step forward and be the guy. And then we simply need to go outside of the team to get a number two.

If Elliott or Barrie step up, we've got our second pairing, powerplay specialist.

And then, I agree, we've got a set defense more or less. So really, the only thing we need to go out and buy is some guy that can play a good complimentary role as a number two - if everything goes sunshine and daisies and Johnson and Elliott work out.

The Avs did rank 8th overall in the West in goals against last season. With an improvement from Johnson/Varly that number could improve. I'd still agree though, it would take a strong pull from the forwards and goaltender to get that defensive group into the playoffs.

I think Hunny is playing first pairing minutes to start the season.
