Did anyone happen to be awake around the draft when Brett Burns (IMO an inferior dman) was traded to San Jose for a young proven scorer who has 1 30 goal season and 2 other 20 goal seasons, their top prospect and a 1st. That package breaks out as such:
Setaguchi >> JVR (at this stages of their careers although I believe they'll cap out to be almost on par)
Coyle < Schenn (although neither has proven a damn thing at the pro level)
Couture vs Phillips ( a wash right now as one stock fell throughout the year while the other's rose)
Now when you add Beck, Nashville overpays.
Sorry but as hyped up as the Philly defense is if they got Weber they still have the problem that Timonen is 36 and Pronger is 37. Timmo has not seen a slide in his game but Harold Ballard has as much mobility as Pronger, who also is becoming a little more prone to injury as his style of play is still very agressive. I think Philly made some great move this offseason but do not see them winning the cup with that defense.

Let's Setoguchi play without thornton. Let's also see JVR up his toi and pp time. Then we will compare the two.
Schenn Is regarded as one of if not the top players not in the Nhl right now
Coutureier Stock did drop, Unfortunately when you are regarded as teh number 1 prospect a year before your draft age you can only go down.
Shea weber is a great player, but the most teams are willing to part with are a bunch of draft picks and maybe a top 6 forward. The days of blockbuster deals for one player will no longer exist in the Salary Cap era.

Trades are not made in a vacuum. Each team places different value on different players based on need, salary, cap space and who knows what else. Just because Player A went for Package B doesn't mean that Player X will also go for a similar Package B. Just look at Kris Versteeg in a matter of a year he was traded for three different packages.
Do you think they will try and pull Weber out of Nashville. The Wild have some pretty good prospects they could offer. Heatley would probably have to be included for financial reasons. Thoughts?
wild will fill in scandella, spurgeon, brodin, and dumba behind suter and gilbert for the future...
the team has prospects for the longterm, that was a big selling point in getting suter and parise. They probably would question blowing up the farm for a good 1-2 yr run

You have to be joking. Heatley? That guy won't be re-signed by Minnesota when he becomes UFA, and they're going to use him as leverage for Weber? Really? If the Preds lost Suter, I'm pretty sure they're keeping Weber and they can take their time negotiating with him (safe to assume that post-Burke vs Lowe, no one will be offersheeting RFAs anytime soon). They'd probably will have to grimace and fork out similar money and terms, but it'd be PR hara-kiri to deal away their captain at this point.

Ryan Suter and Zach Parise....
Terrible cap hits though. Crippling for the future for Nashville
I think Weber gets traded. He doesn't want to be in Nashville any longer especially after Suter leaving. And I don't want him either if he isn't committed to us. I personally hate Trotz as our coach but he is good at getting a lot out of very little.

How do you know he doesn't want to be in Nashville? If anything, this opens up a bit more cap room for his contract.
