If we have the option between offer sheeting and trading, I would definitely prefer the OS route. Bottom 6 is a little weak, but other than that this roster is stacked.
The only way you offer one of the top 4 if it is guaranteed he will sign 5 years or more and it is off-season.
As the season progresses NO team will offer a star player for him.
Also sorry there is NO way in hell that the Oilers give up 4 draft picks to sign Weber to a one year offer sheet. Ain't happening. I laughed out loud at that one.

We have collected 4 superior talents through our drafting and have some great young assets now. The only thing is we don't have enough roster spots. I think now is the time to make a trade if one could be made for this guy. No threats, just facts. Pollie already knows if he has a good shot of re-signing Weber. IF he doesn't feel like he can he can have his pick of any of the following assets: (Hemsky, Prv, Klefbom, Petry, Musil, Gagner, 2013 1st) Not bad, perhaps other teams can offer better?
Why would we risk losing draft picks for one year of Shea Weber? There's no way that he re-signs here as a UFA. He'd use the Oilers for a massive one year payoff and then look elsewhere.
If he signed the RFA contract with us, he'd probably be willing to resign next year. Why become hated in a city when he could just as easily do the 1y deal thing with the team he was going to sign with? But of course then he's missing out on the lifetime type contracts only available this summer. It might be tough to get him to sign the 1 year deal. Unless Katz did something like promise him 100M+ over a 13 year period broken up into CBA allowed allotments.

I am sure that NAS would want one of our Fab 4. It is hard to give one of them up when you have 4 fwds that are top line players it provides so much depth on the top two lines. I would trade any of Hemsky, Gagner, Petry, 2013 picks and any other prospect not names Yak.

I disagree. They'll get a bigger return this summer when teams get the full year of his play. Plus 3/4 of the teams think they are contenders in the offseason, so they're more likely to get a higher draft pick than if they are dealing him to a contender at the deadline.
Weber isn't getting dealt during this offseason. Nashville isn't going to put their fan base through the pain of losing both of their key players in less than two months. I like Weber, and I'd love to see him wearing orange and blue, but Im just not convinced he's destined to be in Edmonton.

Teams usually allow other GM to talk to the player if its a RFA or a pending UFA.
It helps them net a much bigger return.
If NSH trades Weber, the team he is going to would already have a verbal agreement re his next contract.
Why do it now? its because right now he can sign a Suter like contract. It might not be a case after after the next CBA.
The best return for Weber for NSH would be now IMO.

Why wouldn't he sign here? Great young core, lacking a #1 d-man, and he'd be revered as a god in this city.
The team, though promising, is still terrible; the weather isn't everyone's cup of tea; what you might consider reverence he may consider enormous pressure.
But, hey, every team in the league wanted Justin Schultz and he chose us. Maybe players will start to see us differently. And the vaults of Daryl Katz may also be convincing.
He is better than Karlsson, Doughty, Chara, and Suter. He is about as good as Pronger was.

Do people not value passing and hockey sense anymore? Weber is probably the best dman in the league at dominating guys along the boards but he doesn't really have a great passing game. As for hockey sense, he thinks the game pretty well from a defensive point of view, but he doesn't have great offensive instincts.
