Also Hudler may have taken a little less to come with us. I wouldn't doubt Lou would have made a pitch at him if Parise walked on July 1st, or had we known he was gonna leave. Instead a few teams in that crypt of a Northwest division just loaded up. Doubt Parenteau is gonna bring the Avs to the playoffs, and same with Hudler, and the Flames. Though one of them(More so Hudler I'm split on Parenteau) could have provided great depth here.
I'd look for a rental. The available pool this year is thin (too few options at too much). Next year's UFA pool is much wider and we'll have our own business to take care of. Plus big changes coming in the next few months most likely positive that we can't fully predict - ownership and CBA.

Anyone available we could slot into the top six other than Doan is going to get a LT contract. I'd make a 2 year run for him even if we have to overpay. Better than market for Semin or AK on a four year.

I think it would feel good going into next year's UFA (ours and the broader market) with alot of cap room, flexibility on our own guys or to acquire, and a bettter view on exactly where Henrique, JJ, and Teddy slot in LT.

Keep flexibility right now and don't swing for the fences. Competent ST rental.

3 months later he commits $196 to 2 players. They better make the playoffs.

(For the first time in 5 years I should add)

Come on Gary B. Do something good for a change and deny those contracts and take picks from Minny too. There is no way those contracts should stand as is. Total circumvention with the last 3 years and the signing bonuses

Isn't it suppose to have to decrease GRADUALLY?
The 50% rule is that the salary can't drop by more than half of the lower of the first two years. For Suter/Parise, they both make $12 million per season in the first 2 years, so their salary can't drop by $6 million per year.

Kovalchuk made $6 million his first two season, so his contract can't drop by more than $3 million in a single year. This is why Kovalchuk's contract goes from $10 to $7 to $4 to $1 in consecutive years.

The Kovalchuk ruling added new rules to the CBA. The GMs can do whatever they want in a contract up to the age of 40, as long as they follow the 50% rule. This was part of the agreement with the NHLPA for the NHL to accept the 2nd Kovalchuk contract.

Any year past the age of 40 doesn't help lower the cap hit for the years before 40. Kovalchuk's is the last contract that allowed for years past 40 to lower the cap hit.

I agree entirely. I've been pushing for Huselius; I think he can be had on a short contract with his history. Hell, sign Mueller and Sykora as well. Combine Tedenby and those three we might be able to get 164 pretty good games.

HE CANT!!

When the second Kovalchuk contract was approved a condition of that was they can't challenge these sorts of contracts and that it will be dealt with in the next CBA

The league and Bettman said that in the next CBA the roll over of these contracts is going to suck. So sadly we're gonna get hit..AGAIN..but so will these other teams.

Fringe NHLer, spent most of his career with Dallas. Last year with Florida, scored 1 of his 2 goals against us. He's also a racist.(Got suspended one game last year for a racial slur)

First jackass that in our sweater that boos Brodeur this year for a softie is going to have my foot up his backside. Swiftly.

And I have never, but once, ever addressed another fan in our building.

Wasn't he 9 in the Olympics? As a captain you would think he could have picked 11 if he wanted it so badly. The BS piles up.

With Parise and Ponikarovsky gone I suspect Lou will sign another left winger. Probably Kostitsyn or Huselius.
