decent signing, mostly for chicago probably

i do agree we need to replace Alberts though. the guy hits like a beast but hes a pylon.. he gets turned inside out easily and skates slow. not comfortable with him potentially being our 6th/7th

Here are his Corsi numbers from last year

Pretty depressing to say the least. I doubt we see him on the Canucks next year, he seems like someone who's replacing Baumer in Chicago.

Another "offensive" defenseman.

How about somebody physical for once?

We have a very physical depth defenseman. Everybody (but me) hates him.

Andrew Alberts?

If that's who you're referring to, the guy throws his weight around maybe once or twice a game, but he has nothing in the way of a mean streak. We need somebody that has genuine grit. We try to force that roll on players and it doesn't work.

I want a big, mean, hard nosed physical defenseman. Somebody who would grab another players head with two hands and smash it against the glass without hesitation. You guys know of any with a temper like that?

Given his size Alberts (assuming that's who we are discussing) should be physical. He should on par with Chara....but he's not. At all.

With Minny signing Parise and Suter, signing Joslin was a move that Gillis had to make.

I feel like you haven't seen Alberts play before. And obviously he can't be on par with Chara as far as physicality goes, he doesn't play for the Bruins so he has to follow the rules.

I've been an Alberts fan on and off for the past couple of seasons. However, the majority of his hits resemble a bird flying into a window - he does more damage to himself than the window.

Before you get all hissy, yes I've seen Alberts play, in about 119 games.

"Congratulations, Henrik, on finally bringing a cup to the west coast. What made the difference in 2013, compared to last year?"
"Well, obviously signing Derek J early was the big move of last summer. Adding Weber later in July helped a little, too."

Alberts is physical, he throws hits to hurt people. His total hits may not be high, but he isn't like a Tanner Glass or Dale Weise who softly rub out guys along the boards to pad their hit numbers.

If there's an injury to Hamhuis, Edler, or Ballard I'm confident Alberts can slide into the third pairing with Tanev and be fine in a limited role. We need someone who can do the same as a fourth guy on the right side.

I also like him, but mostly because I'm sick of having the softest defense in the league. Ditching Salo helps that.
