I'm not under playing the impact of Weber, but "empty the cupboard"... doesn't sit well with me. How much more can we upgrade our D? Yes, he'll drastically improve the pp, but it's a limited gain on the defensive side. Again, he's fantastic but our D was 2nd best only so much more you can improve and it costs $7.5m minimum. We have 3 25-28 minute defenders; that's 84 of 120 defensive minutes. Less than 40 minutes gets spread over the other 3 which includes MDZ and potentially Stralman/Erixon/UFA. Finally, we need the cupboard to offset the cap hit of $7.5m players. If Nash to Philly and Pitt is senseless, can't the same be said about Weber to NYR or StL?

My question exactly.

Although, I believe I heard that before ???

Here's another question I've heard before....

How are the Rangers going to sign anyone if they don't overpay this off season? Does anyone really believe it Will it be any better come the trade deadline next year? I guess some do?

I believe that the market has moved up. Most are comparing this off seasons contracts to contracts from the last few seasons. Using that relationship the Rangers are forced to play the hand they were dealt.

Market sets the price. Limited amount of defenders. Semin is carrying the "lazy Russian who might jet to KHL" tag. Think Zherdev-prove yourself contract with the Flyers. I'd sign him, not a popular notion around here admittedly. And by sign him, I mean no more than 2 yrs at $5.5 per. If he doesn't like the "discount" he can sign 1 year for $4.5 or 5m, have fun with the new CBA rules.

What on earth makes you think Semin is going to sign for 1 or 2 years in this market?

Wow. Just got around to visiting the Devils forum. Parise's dead to them, apparently. Only been their hardest worker in his time there.

It's hilarious how Parise went from a saviour to a traitor and an overrated player in such a short time.

When the Devils made the SCF, some of my devil friends would make fun of me and say we have better players than you...Kovy, and Parise is better than anybody on the Rangers. Now on my facebook page, they've called him overrated, traitor, and that they never liked him to begin with

I don't get it, it's not like Parise pulled a Pronger and requested a trade from the SC runner ups. He wasn't under contract and it was his right to explore free agency. Can't blame the guy if he gets big time contract at home.

Said Bross: "He's like, 'I'm not going anywhere provided we can get ownership in place. The only thing that might make me consider it is we don't get ownership. I don't know if I can go through what we went through the last three years not knowing where we're going to be next year" http://www.azcentral.com/sports/coyo...-deadline.html

Nashville isn't trading Weber. Poile has said its now his priority to sign Weber and that he's basically the guy they build around. They'll give him as much or more than Suter and with the CBA changing its probably in his interest to sign a big deal now rather than next year. Only question is offer sheets...

It is looking nice fore us, especially considering that i think that even if we don't make any drastic changes, we will be better simply through the development of our very young team.

I feel bad for Poile. He is a damn good GM. If he was running Toronto, or another big market I would be terrified.

Ok, so last season as the Rick Nash thing dragged on, I went from not wanting any part of him to desperately believing we needed him.

In the playoffs I felt the same way, but watching Kreider and MDZ play made me really happy we didn't just throw those guys away for a guy that might be headed to a bit of a tapering in his career.

Now that I've had time away from the season, I'd like to state that unequivocally I hope we avoid making any major move to gain Nash. I'm not the guy that constantly wants to ship players out of town that work hard for us and put in a ton of effort.

I want to see more goal scoring, but I really believe AA will contribute more, Dubi won't have nearly the season he's coming off of, Stepan will take a step forward, Kreider will show us enough to make us really happy about our future, and Richie won't slump nearly as bad as he did early last season. Those things together with a healthy Staal, a veteran McD, a veteran MDZ, Callahan close to being a consistent threat…

Let things play out. Pitt got worse. Philly isn't terrifying. The Devils are old, on the verge of a post Marty era, and just lost their captain and hardest working player. The Isles are building a core, but they don't have a clear league-wide number 1 in net. Nash could be the one player we need to jump over that hump. But keep in mind, the hump is now a Stanley Cup, after the performance of this passed season's Nash-free team.

I get that a player selected this year will likely be producing for the team sooner than a player selected next year...but that's assuming all things are equal. Are the Devils expecting to make it to the SCF or even the ECF next year? For all we know they could finish 21st overall. In that case, would the 10th selection in next years draft not have a chance of both producing sooner AND being a better player than the one selected 29th overall this year??? I guess it's a moot point until we see what pick they give up, since they can still defer the 1st rounder they have to forfeit until 2014 if they suck this year.
