Portzline isn't making it up, he's being fed info from the organization. Whether that's true or not is anyone's guess. I just don't see how they go demanding Skinner from Carolina but aren't demanding Kreider, Stepan, or McD from us. It makes no sense.

It sounds like Howson is playing chicken with Sather... If that's the case, then I think he's going to learn his lesson the hard way...

Yeah, but I don't think making fuss in the press is the way to go. If he wants to play hard ball, Nash should be like I have 1-2 teams on my list now(it will not change).

Either trade me or I stay.

If that means this drags out all summer, so be it.

My opinion in all this: Eventually the owner is going to force a trade.

I really like the idea of McBain.

So I guess he doesn't want Nash that much. That's fine with me. Move along to the next option then.

Pretty sure Sather wants him really bad. He just wants him at his price. The next option is Ryan who will cost significantly more.

Its evident that Howson wants roster players that have the potential to eventually be what Nash is now; a perennial 30g scorer. He doesn't want to settle for 2nd line, 50-60p ceiling players. He doesn't want defense either. No team in the league will ever give in to this demand. He will not be able to make a trade unless he settles on the roster players being a combination of forwards/defenseman along with a top prospect and 1st round pick. this is the best value he's going to get.

Yeah, he could, and that would destroy Howson and the Blue Jackets, but it'd also earn Nash the reputation of being a bad teammate, bad person, greedy, selfish, etc. He'd also be taking the risk that if Howson still decided not to trade him, then he wouldn't be playing hockey at all that year

e: on the other hand maybe that'd cost Howson his job and everyone would be happy

Actually I have a fear now that Pittsburgh will enter the Nash sweepstakes, driving up the price and will force Sather to do something stupid. Biggest worry for me.

And admittedly, a lot of people are divided on Nash.

There's a lot of questions about what he is capable of on a good team. Some see him as a comfortable 30 goal guy who is a step below the elite. Others as a 40 goal guy who needs a change of scenery.

I tend to fall into the latter category, but I won't lie and say it's an absolute certainty.

I think the truth of the matter lies in what some folks were discussing a few weeks ago.
I don't think Howson wants to trade Nash at all, and he believes that unless another GM is desperate enough to make a dumb move in trading the house for Nash, then Howson can say "well sorry Rick, I tried." and that will be that.
I think the only way Nash gets moved is when either he, his agent, or the owner forces Howson to do it.

Howson had let this drag on for far too long. He should have dealt him at the deadline or at least by the draft. The market here is shrinking. He's counting on a desperation move by Sather which I don't think he's likely to get...

With the way this circus act has gone, I dont think anyone could blame him if he held out.

Howson should be fired.

Richards, Carter, Staal all were traded very quickly. Howson has dragged this Nash crap on for months.

RT @ice_chip: Rutherford won't comment on Nash situation. Said Canes could have interest in Doan, Semin. Reading between lines: Canes are moving on.

I don't know about that. McBain is a good player but he's not some elite defenseman.

They have nothing but defensive prospects. They can't give what Columbus wants. Sorry, Kunitz, Matt Cooke don't count.

If they still had Staal, then they would be worrisome.

He struggles, time to time, defensively. But he still close to a 40 pt D man. Rutherford will probably want an overpayment for his services.

Defense prospects can be flipped easily for young forwards/forward prospects. Ie Paajarvi, Colin Wilson, etc.

Unless Shero is willing to part with James Neal, what exactly does he have to drive up the price? You may or may not have not have noticed, but, Howson is asking for young forwards. I do not believe that the specter of Beau Bennett has Sather all that worried.
