Montoya play was awful after that collision. Prior though, he was terrific. All the best to him.

Will definitely miss Butchie butchering his name though.

My thoughts exactly. Curious, is that the new min?

I kid.
$1000 to buy warm clothes and $600 000 to live on?

He gotta have even numbres left after his clothes. That's his sign on bonus. $1000 for keeping himself alive .

So this is the last backup spot no? Means Ellis, Nittymaki jobless?

Should get a 2 way deal somewhere

There were better options out there for #2G

....But it's a low-money signing, so even if they have to (and should) send him Nwfoundland and grab someone else it won't hurt them.

They got someone is the point, so decent move by the Jets

I think Montoya is gonna prove to be a steal on that contract.

Hopefully you guys get the Montoya before he was injured last season. He was great when he first got traded to the Islanders and also at the start of the season.

I don't get the 601K, he signed for the exact same amount last season. I am surprised Chicago didn't take a chance(since he is a hometown boy)

Didn't realize that his dropoff coincided with the Kane collision. Yeah that was a nasty one, it was one of those smacks that just made you wince.

My biggest concern is that Montoya might be one of these goalies who fares alright when being given the start night after night, but doesn't fare as well when being thrown in after long periods of inactivity. And that's really what the Jets need, someone who can spell Pavelec with a start every couple of weeks.

I hope this proves to be a nice low risk/high reward signing, but I'm not holding my breath.

They only offered him 600,000

"My client is looking for $601,000.01"

"We'll get back to you....
...
Okay here's our final offer - $601,000.00"

"You drive a hard bargain Mr. Chevaldayoff. Deal!
Hey Al! Guess what! You'll be making over 600k this year! Pretty sweet eh!?"

Nittymaky sucks now and I never understood why people thought Ellis was ever good. He had a good half season in 2008 and he's been a sieve since.

The extra grand is to cover all the panhandlers he'll have to go through to get to the arena!

This could potentially be one of the best signing this season. Monty is good. Just hope he can get back to pre-collision.

Like others have said, he was excellent pre-collision. While he was away Nabakov heated up and stole the show, and Monty never really got that many starts afterwards. Only towards the end when Nabakov got injured did he play several in a row. This signing is a bit of a gamble, but it could definitely pay off well for the Jets.

Goalies develop really late.

I still think this kid has a lot of game left in him.

The $1000 is for the bet he lost to a friend saying he would never end up in Winnipeg....
