Scott Hannan

What would anyone think of signing Scott Hannan to a two year deal? I always though he was a good defensive defenseman. Would he be able to open up more offense for Kronwall, Smith or Erickson if he was paired up with any of them?

It's not a bad thing, just a poster here thinks very highly of Scott Hannan.

No interest in Hannan. Would have taken him last year instead of Ericsson. But we've got too many left-handed D. If we sign someone, it should be a righty.

We need a defenseman who can help on the PK, but man the options left are brutal. All old, slow, one-dimensional guys. (http://capgeek.com/ufa_finder.php?po..._type=ICE_TIME)

I kind of like the idea of Rozsival at this point.

So you're going to defend Rozsival tooth and nail to the death now?

If he comes at the right price and passes his physical (still worried how anything can be fine after that Brown hit) I think he is a good signing. I would like to see Kindl actually get minutes this year, so everyone other than Rozsival who has experience as a top four d-man and did it last year for a team that went to a conference finals.

I want Kindl over both Hannan and Carlo at this point, only Rozsival is left that I would gamble with and it won't be near his 5 million cap hit of last season. Somewhere between two and three million max if they give him more than one year. I guess with the cap as it is right now they could probably give him a one year deal for bad money anyway.

As a fellow Czech, he could even be a nice mentor for Kindl.

Strange he couldn't get a better deal last summer. And I still think he should be considered for Detroit. Does he have any kind of off ice-issues causing the low interest?

Last year, he was coming off that big contract and probably thought he was going to get another big contract.
But defensive defensemen who play for bad teams often see their market value destroyed, especially if they are north of 30 years old.

Watching him play the last few seasons his skating is borderline dreadful now. He still battles, but he's a pylon at this point in his career.

This. If the guy wasn't such an effort player he would have washed out of the league by now. He deserves credit for his motor and it is a great quality, but it is becoming to the point where it is sadly simply not enough.

I'd prefer Rozsival over Hannan, ideally on a 1 or 2 year deal. He probably knows that his next contract isn't coming all that close to his prior one, so get for PK and bottom pair duties at $2-$2.5m if he'll go for it.

I like the idea of a vet like Hannan on a short term deal, but I have visions of Derian Hatcher SLOWLY skating in my head when I think of Hannan on the ice. Guy's a pylon.
