what do you guys think about offering gomez a 1 year contract? he didn't seem awful and hes defensively responsible. hes got good speed and is a pretty solid playmaker.
let him center ryan and selanne if he plays well in camp.
bonino gets pushed to 4th line, and holland gets first call up or 1st line minutes in the AHL.
Rather have Holland and Bonino on the team. Not that I think Gomez is a bad player or anything though. It was really just his contract that sucked.
Why would we want to pick up a guy whose career is noticeably on the downside versus trying young players whose careers are expected to be on the upswing? It's not like he is the one last perfect piece to a serious Cup run. Pass.
I would take Gomez on a 1 year deal for the 4th line. At best he may be able to put up 15 points, at worst he's a healthy scratch. He also hovers around 50% on the dot which while isn't great is an upgrade over everyone not named Koivu on the roster. He's not exactly going to be hindering anybodys development if he's only playing 4th line minutes.
Gomez can't sign with another NHL team until July 1st as I understand it.
They've bought in an accelerated buyout rule where if a team chooses they can buy a player out now so the said player can sign elsewhere this season. TSN does a better job of describing it than me here. Redden and Gomez are both expected to be bought out under this rule.
I don't think Gomez is going to get a contract from any team until and unless he can sign with some minor club and show he has some worthwhile game left in him.

Oh, missed that, thanks.
Given that there's only four centers in camp, and Boudreau has Bonino slotted for the 2nd line and Koivu for the 3rd, it certainly looks like Holland will be the 4th line center. I can't imagine Boudreau (or any NHL coach) would play a talent like that on the 4th line if the plan wasn't to give him icetime regardless.
If Holland gets sent down, I'd rather have someone else than Gomez on the 4th line. I don't think he's as bad as 99% on HF makes him out to be, but I'd prefer someone who plays a more typical 4th line style. If however, Bonino proves uncapable of putting up points on the 2nd line and Holland can't do it either, it could make sense to bring in Gomez in as reclamation project. But at this point, we don't know how the kids will do. And if Gomez is brought in and the kids does well, I don't see the fit for Gomez at all.
I could live with him as the 4th line center if the Ducks didn't already have Bonino and Koivu there, both who aren't very strong or physical.
Did Maroon clear waivers? I wouldn't mind us claiming Ryan Hamilton to battle Beleskey and/or Maroon for a 4th line job. I guess it's not likely with PL3 and Staubitz around.

Yeah I believe so, we probably put him on waivers now so other teams don't know what we have and claim him later. Because I don't think we have to put him on waivers until another month now if we go and send him down to the AHL.
If anything, I think you'd want Gomez for the 4th line. He had TWO goals last year. Probably a good energy line and PK addition, but he's not 2nd line material anymore IMO.
ya thats true but going on the habs board some people think that hes just not the right fit for the market. after all he was really good in new jersey. maybe he doesn't like the pressure of being a Canadien, he might thrive here and apparently he still has decent hands. he was just injured and was playing 4th line minutes.
I think we should try to take Connolly for 2nd line C spot, but, yeah, Bob won`t do it, because who needs centres anyway, right?
Connolly isn`t the best choice, but his salary this year is 4M, and this is his last one in contract. He`s still good for 0,5 PPG. With Bobby and Teemu he might do well.

Yeah it would make sense, but I don't see Murray giving him the 4M he's owed. But he was paying Jason Blake that kind of money, and Connolly only has one year left so who knows.
Getzlaf-Connolly-Koivu-Bonino would actually be somewhat solid center core
It is, depending on if he can stay healthy. I was thinking how much he would bring to our second PP unit. He's a great puck distributor, a true PP specialist. He's make that unit semi-relevant at least.
I don't see him doing hit. According to Lisa Dillman, Murray didn't even inquire about Jokinen and he's better and about the same price.
Maybe there's a rule about how many Finns you can have on your team
I don't see it happening either, just wishful thinking. Jokinen is also older and wanted a multi-year deal. They'd both just be stop-gaps either way, but at least we wouldn't have to worry about Connolly after this season.

And Connolly can play big PP and PK minutes, which would give us a really good depth.

Blake situation was entirely different to claiming a crappy center off waivers.
You guys keep ignoring the fact that BB and BM are set on giving Bonino and Holland a chance before Bob goes dumpster diving again. And I personally find that more refreshing than hanging out by the dumpster all day to see what gets thrown away next.
Unless we were one key player away from being serious Cup contenders I agree with their approach.
Yeah, Connolly's just way too much risk at his price. This is probably just Nonis checking if he can get someone to bite via waivers, otherwise he's a prime candidate for a trade for future considerations, with the Leafs retaining some salary. If that even gets something done (otherwise, prime candidate for a buyout).
