When asked was the same offer available at the draft, Howson replied with "I'd have to check my notes".

I wonder why they didn't wait another day to match. Try to make Philly sweat it out or something. Although maybe the goodwill in Nashville is more important.

Good thing we don't have any useful RFAs. Philly might get desperate, sort of like Edmonton and Penner.

It would have been nice to see him in the East.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out down the road. Weber's agent made it very clear he was ready to move on. Now he is committed to life in NSH.

But I love seeing the Preds stick it to Homer and some of the more pompous Flyer fans.

While I would prefer to not have to see weber around, I think losing him might have been the end of a franchise in Nashville and I wouldn't wish that upon any fan base. Except maybe Detroit and Toronto. But it's nice to see the arrogance in Philly get shut down. I like watching them play but the fan arrogance and the ******** move during the CBA talks.......not so much.

Ballsy move by Preds management and they showed their fans they don't let Philly to bully them. Congrats Nashville!

So is Flyers desperate now to increase the offers for Bobby?

Judging by their fans on HF no. They are even more adamant that having been scorned twice (Nash and Weber) the Ducks will damn well take what they offer or else they will sign Bobby in 3 years as a ufa. So, we might as well just hand him over now at their price and be done with it. Some people sure do get cranky in the off season.

Well Nashville really showed some balls matching, good for them. Now we'll see how long they can keep paying Weber + Rinne 21mil per season.

Wonder what's the chance Philadelphia goes after other RFA now in desperation? Sort of like Edmonton and Penner.

There are some enticing D targets. Kulikov, Del Zotto, Blum, Subban, Carlson.

I would love to see the ****storm a Subban OS could start.

Doubtful, the Flyers saw Weber as one of very few guys in the league that could replace Pronger which is why they went after him so hard. Those players you listed aren't an upgrade on what the Flyers already have and would not be worth giving such an extreme contract that the other team wouldn't match.

Hey I'm not a trade board or Philly/Montreal mod. It's all fun and games for me.

True none are as good as Weber now. But I think a couple have the potential to be as good soon. Maybe Homer will go mad with potential, just like Penner.

I think Homer already is mad in more ways than one. Waiting to see his next move is better than "must see TV".

The only guys with top end potential are Subban, Kulikov and Carlsson. And I don't think any of them will ever come close to Weber's level who IMO is the best defenseman in the NHL right now. I'd have to think the Caps and Canadiens would be able to match almost anything and the Panthers would have a very hard time letting Kulikov go.

If I was Holmgren I would try and pry someone like Enstrom out of Winnipeg. They may not be able to replace Pronger but they're going to need to replace Timonen next season and Enstrom would give them a great top 4 this year and if they can extend him gives them a top pairing defenseman for the next few seasons.

I can't post the link since I'm on a phone but there were quotes today from Homer saying he wasn't going to use the offer sheet method anymore this offseason. Said he did it only because it was Weber. Granted he's been know to lie in the past but just thought i would share. I'll try and post the link later when i get home.

Carolina appears to be making a strong play for legitimacy.

7M for a year of Semin though? Ouch.

7 million for a guy who only scored 21 goals last season. Talk about overpayment.

Well, you never just pay for the last single year. In a summer where Hudler gets $16M over 4 years, I think $7M for one year on Semin, especially for a team that still has to spend to reach the floor like Carolina, doesn't seem too bad.

Also, if there isn't a big signing bonus involved, this could be a bit of a gamble on the date for the new CBA. If the season starts in January, he'll just see like 4-4.5M of that. But even if it's the full year, I don't dislike this deal for them, given their situation.
