Jagr, Carle, JVR leaves in comes Schenn, Gervais, Fedotenko. Seems like a huge drop in offense. A trade coming?

"tpanotchCSN
double checking Gervais numbers. could be $850 aav"

two minutes later...

"tpanotchCSN
cap hit for Gervais appears to be $825K per"

mod might want to fix that

anyway i see this as a depth signing but but flyers have plenty of 6/7 dmen in MAB, Gus, Lilja so I really don't get this. whatever

I hope he's in the lineup when the Isles play the Flyers.

From the sounds of it, Gervais is a forward-moving defenseman only hindered by the fact he's generally awful regardless

It's surprising he went from minimum salary to a two-year contract and a 300k raise.

Must be friends with Giroux too.

The only thing that I can think of is that holmgren wanted him so he can get all the islander secret plays.

I never understood this. Did they play together or grow up near each other? If so ( I haven't really paid attention to either of them in the minors since they weren't huge names but this would probably answer my question lol)

Well hopefully he can do something otherwise, I really don't see him beating out Gustafsson or Marc Andre Bourdon.

Gustafsson is waiver-exempt, so I see him starting the season on the Phantoms. Of course, this is Holmgren we are talking about here, so there may be another major signing or trade in like five minutes.

You could give us Linus Omark's mom instead and I think we'd still do it

I'd trade an older defenseman who can't play defense for a younger forward who can't score except in the shootout.

I honestly forgot Lilja was still playing until the Devils played the Flyers in the playoffs. He must be up there in age since I believe he came over rather late

Gotta love that a defenseman's best friend hashtags "pylon" when he joins the team.

I generally dislike bashing of players, but this quote is one of the funniest bashings ever. Made me lol. Nice one!

He looked pretty good in his 2nd pro year, split between the Isles and the AHL. Hasn't done much since other than a brief offensive run near the end of last season.

Still 27, who knows..
