Tommy Joseph would be the centerpiece, it seems.

EDIT: I see I was beaten to the punch here.

So I guess its the catcher?
Don't they have a good SS? Maybe him and then moving him to 3rd?

Terrible ****ing trade then, terrible. Ed Wade bent Ruben over the desk last July and now he is just giving him away?

Joe Panik? He's a little overrated. Played against him. Probably a 2nd baseman in the show.

That's how you know you're a bad GM. The return from the Giants for Pence just further confirms it.

Giants VP Andrew Baggarly now denying the deal is complete. Guess we'll have to see, but if the deal is that bad, man. Buh-bye RAJ.

Ed Wade made out well in his deals with the Phillies.

Do we know for certain that Amaro hasn't been given an order to dump salary?

While Victorino had to go now, the team doesn't lose much by sitting on Pence til December. It seems odd that they would move him for some combination of Schieholtz, Joseph, and Panik.

The only thing I can possibly see is that they are clearing up salary to make some bug move in the offseason.

Idk, I think he made out well in the Pence deal. We won a WS in large part because we got Lidge for Bourn, and we got Oswalt and money for Happ.

The Pence deal was highway robbery. Never wanted them to move Singleton. I agree we won a WS with Lidge so I think that is the best they made with Wade, but we really only got one good year out of Lidge. They gave up a good prospect in Gose for Oswalt, too, but Wade didn't hang onto him.

The Phillies will have to do something to guard against the fan base going into full mutiny mode. Even if it's just cosmetic. Maybe they can double down on their stupidity and throw a 7-year, $150 million contract at Josh Hamilton!

Orioles not giving up on Blanton, per Rosenthal. Hopefully we're still in contact with the Reds for Pierre and the Rangers or D-Backs for Lee+

Well, for those complaining earlier about having too many pink hats at the ballpark, they may get their wish about the "not true fans" being gone sooner then we thought.

If this really is about clearing salary, I really hope we're not going back to the penny pinching crap we had earlier. I don't miss the Phils being bottom dwellers. I'd rather not go back to that.

Oh god no, I dont want him here at all. But they could be acquiring these pieces to make a big tradde. I still think Lee gets traded in the offseason.

What I want to know is how a couple months of Beltran was worth their best pitching prospect, but a year and a half of Pence is worth a decent catching prospect.

An aging team with no farm system is what made the 80s and 90s irrelevant for the Phillies.

I think the resigning of Cole should insulate the organization against charges of being "cheap"--at least through next season. It isn't hard to read the move as moving Pence to free up the money to extend Cole--and that's likely to be perceived as a reasonable / popular decision by many fans.
