Amnesty Calderon?
seems possible. But I have to believe that out there somewhere is a team that's willing to give us something, anything for him. Expiring contracts are highly movable even if they are making $10m for that last year. and if this off-season proves anything, it's that a lot of teams want PGs.

Hell, Houston might need one if their Lin offer sheet fails. It'd be funny to trade Calderon to the rockets for Houston's 1st next year.

Have to triple-check math, but pretty sure Raps will have do one of renounce Bayless/amnesty Jose/rescind Fields to fit Lowry.

I still see Miami and Dallas as great fits for Jose, he'll even NYK if they're willing to do business.

Tough to see how those guys will take on salary but I can see us squeezing out a little value from one of them

Which SFs would the Raptors target if we amnesty Calderon? Thoughts?

Can someone clarify the Landry Fields situation as well? Are we keeping him?

order of preference of loss:
1) fields (presuming they can weasel out of the PR fiasco)
2) calderon
3) bayless

all 3 options are palatable, but I really don't want them to cut Bayless loose if they can help it (unless he is asking for crazy money). Calderon would seem to be the smarter move too since he's gone next year anyway.

If they have to cut loose one of FIelds/Calderon/Bayless to get Lowry, chances are they won't be adding another SF on top of that. Not unless they get rid of two of the 3 (Calderon and Fields would have to go to make the most extra room)

as for Fields, it's not official yet. It can't be until the 11th. The problem is whether or not the Raptors want to go back on the verbal agreement they reached with the Fields camp and what the potential PR fallout would be if they did.

Couldn't they possible add a 3rd team into mix and throw Calderon their way, instead of wasting the amnesty?

On reported Kyle Lowry-to-Toronto trade, source says Houston will get future 1st rounder (protected) for either James Johnson or Gary Forbes

damn. They won't take Forbes if they can take Johnson. That sucks. I like Johnson.

As much as I dislike the Fields contract, it would like horrible on the Raps part to back out now.

I agree. Was just pointing out that it's option #2 in terms of saving money. Still hope it's Calderon out and Forbes in teh trade.

Lowry/Bayless
DeRozan/Ross
Fields/J.Johnson
Bargnani/Davis/A.Johnson
Valanciunas/Grey hopefully/A.Johnson

Quincy Acy can rotate in and out of the lineup too.

EDIT: oh, I forgot about Kleiza. Oh well, stick him as the 3rd SF.

Well this is nice

So do we have a confirmation on whether the pick is protected or not?

Why the players do it all the time, look at the multi millions the Raptors have paid players over the years for not playing here. I can think of two or three Big Men in particular.

Hopefully its not Johnson. He's a very good bench guy that does a lot of things well. I like him a lot.

And some of the playoff predictions are a bit premature. We've got the Heat/Celtics/Pacers/Knicks as locks I would say. The Nets WILL make the playoffs with that lineup, with or without Howard. The Bulls don't have Rose for the majority of the season but I don't think its wise to count them out either, seeing how they coped without him this season. The Hawks and Magic are maybe teams that slip out (depending again on the Howard situation) but I think the Wizards are primed to take one of their spots considering they got rid of the boneheads on their team and have Wall/Beal/Ariza/Nene/Okafor as their starting 5.

I forgot about the 76ers as well, they'll be in the mix. So if we do make it, it will be in the 7th/8th spot.

Oh and Nemesis, I don't buy any predraft hype prior to the season. We all remember how this draft was supposed to be of epic proportions with AD/Barnes/Sullinger/PJ3 as the headliners and at the end their was only one franchise talent available. Things change quickly.

Excellent trade. Lowry is an instant starting PG for us, Forbes sucks, and that pick is in a crap draft unless we really, really suck as a team (unlikely. Raps are better now than they were last year)

Ed Davis really rubs me the right way

This is the kind of thing we need from our guys off the court that will help is get some credibility. Demar and Jerred have also been on record talking about TO.

Now we need them to give guys reasons why they should come to the Raps ON the court haha

I am not a basketball guy so I would like to ask someone to break down the logistics of the trade for a dumb dumb like me. Does this give Toronto the ability to compete for anything at all in the next few years?
