The Flyers Signed Bruno Gervais 2 years, $825K AAV

Apparently they are close to signing him.

Source- http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/i...n-Gervais.html

http://www.hockey-reference.com/play...gervabr01.html

http://www.broadstreethockey.com/201...ee-agency-2012

That gives us a whole lot of depth at D for number 5/6 guys.

Coburn-Mezsaros
Timonen-Schenn
Grossman- ______

Lilija
Gervais
Bourdon
Gustafsson
Syvret

edit- I guess we can throw in Manning too.

Would be the only signing thus far we could actually describe as an NHL player. All I know is the Phantoms are going to have a good D this year.

I think we're going to give Gustafsson, Bourdon, Manning, etc. a full year with the Phantoms under Terry Murray. If anyone can mold NHL quality defenders and two-way forwards, it's that guy.

Like the signing and think something else is in the works on defense.

Timonen
Coburn
Grossmann
Meszaros
Schenn
Gervais
Lilja
---
Walker
Gustafsson
Bourdon
Manning
Syvret

Lots of defensemen now and they're all serviceable (except Matt Walker). Some nice injury back-ups which I think was a big concern for the team going forward with Timonen, Grossmann and Meszaros all having issues this past playoff run. I could see JBouw coming in and replacing Meszaros or even keeping both.

Anyone else has a feeling that it means one of our depth Ds will be involved in a trade?

Don't mind this, lets us possibly move a defenseman. Would rather have Gervais than Lilja in the lineup.

Bye bye Matt. Good luck where ever you land. Dam we have a bunch of defensemen now. Wonder what is up?

I'll wait to see when the other shoe falls to discuss this signing. I can't fathom this being an isolated move.

Gotta remember, they will carry Lilja since they get the cap hit either way.

Bourdon will not be able to be sent down or called up without some other team grabbing him.

I think Gervais, if signed, goes to the A. No way do we carry 9 defensemen on the roster.

From Hockey News - Bio:
http://forecaster.thehockeynews.com/...layer.cgi?3529

ASSETS: Moves the puck out of the defensive zone swiftly and with aplomb. Has sound all-around upside and poise under pressure.

FLAWS: Is somewhat inconsistent in all areas of the game. Doesn't use his 6-1 frame enough to gain the upper hand on opponents in the defensive zone.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Puck-moving depth defenseman.

EDIT: So, now I think that Carle won't be resigned (as Gervais basically is Carle without pt producing and WAY cheaper) and Homer goes after Doan (after July 9th when ownership is resolved) or Semin......

It's not official but yes

“@BroadStBull: The #Flyers will announce Gervais' signing either later tonight or tomorrow, I'm told.”

“@tpanotchCSN: Flyers hope to have Gervais deal done tonight but may not be filed until THUR”
