There were lockouts in the NBA and NFL recently too - though the latter didn't lose any regular season games. NA major leagues have grown as of late and of course owners and players want to re-negotiate their share of the pie.

Mostly it's the fact that the NHL is becoming more and more of a business. And the more business it has become, the more money has become a part of it, for both owners and players. The owners want to maximize their own profits (or limit losses), and the players want to be payed as much as possible, those things usually don't go well together, so they'll have to find compromises. Just like in any other business and industry.

It's not the NHL and Bettmans fault, cause the owners control the NHL and Bettman, Bettman doesn't lockout any players unless the owners has told him to do so. If begins doing stuff like that without consent from his employers, he won't have a job for very long.

Most NHL owners have little knowledge about the ins and outs of the NHL. Bettman keeps his job by continually selling the owners on ways to make money. One of the ways he makes them money is by grinding on the NHLPA.

I think it's pretty unlikely owners are investing hundreds of millions of dollars into something they have little knowledge about.

Guys that rich don't run businesses, they pay people to run them. It's up to those people to figure out how to make the boss money. I doubt most can tell you what a UFA is.

I just plain disagree with you. I think the owners probably have a very good knowledge of hockey and what's going on with their club. You just don't invest millions of dollars into something you don't know about.

No, you are wrong, and Scurr is right. For many owners in the NHL, hockey is indeed a passion. But in reality, they are businessmen who realize you hire experts to run their multi-million dollar business.

There are exceptions like Charles Wang (though he might not know what a UFA is )

So he's a 17-year-old from Quebec who has no inside information whatsoever. What a surprise.

Who else thinks the Flyers goal song is the best in the league? Not too annoying, it's catchy, and overall pretty decent.

Not bad, pretty neat. Funny, I never noticed it/heard it during the Penguins/Flyers series this year. Maybe the crowd drowned it out?

That is an excellent contract for Max Pacioretty. The best I've seen in quite some time for any player. Prime years. Term, and a very manageable cap hit.

Agree. If nothing else at least Marc Bergevin has shown he can handle contract management.
