Jbo to Detroit

Discussed this on the wings board already, let's see what you guys think.

Jbo
Roster dump from bottom 6

For

Quincey
Mursak or 2nd
Tatar/Pulkkinen/Sproul/Tvrdon/Oulett

Tatar and Tyrdon both have been progressing very well. Tvrs had 74 points in 60 games with the giants, I love Tatar as he has speed, skill and grit.

I'll be honest, I know next to nothing about Detroit's prospect pool, save for Nyquist and Jarnkrok (and I've heard and read enough about them to know they're not for sale). What are the ceilings/projections of the guys you listed? Mursak as well...

Tfong is trying to help his precious wings again. Detroit doesn't seem like good trading partners because outside their top 6 forwards and top 2 defensemen, I'm not really impressed.

Pass

Detroit has nothing I want (or can reasonably expect) in return for Bouwmeester.

I think Ironhook (Jarnkrok)can be moved if it was Jbo.

Mursak I believe projects to be a winger version of Darren Helm or like Jeff Friesen.
Tatar can fit anywhere but full potential would be a first line Version of gelinas.
Tvrdon is very strong on his skates has s dustin Penner skillset he is fairly safe to make the NHL in any capacity.

The rest I can't really comment on as much.

Sproul is a top six two way as is Oulett both have upside to be top pairings at best potential.

On that note I'm looking to help both teams achieve needs

What do you want Flippers for? I think he has reached his peak as a #2c and we don't need more of those. I can see the wings doing this tho I'm fairly certain flames don't.

MarkGio: I think you would like Nyqvist in Calgary. The guy has good work ethic and plays a Datsyuk type game.

Don't really see them giving Nyqvist up too easily.. One of fewer and fewer bright spots in their organization.

Detroit has a lot of really under rated prospects IMO.

Xavier Ouellet looks like he could be a real gem down the road.

I'd consider this I suppose.

I'd take the 2nd in 2013 over Mursak, and Ouellet out of the listed prospects.

IMO we should be trading for the players Detroit drafts in the 6th and 7th round.

Brendan Smith would be nice. From what i've read on Tatar (haven't seen him play) is that he is well suited for juniors but many fear he will not be able to translate his game to the NHL level. He has done well in the AHL but that doesn't tell us much as guys like TJ Hensick are absolute monsters at the AHL level.

The good thing about Tatar is even if his offense doesn't translate he has the skillset to be a bottom six player, of course I'm Hopi g he doesn't turn into that. He had a decent WC showing with 5 points in 10games. The guy just keeps motoring.

I see what you did there Backlund :p

This is probably the only deal I'd do, with the Nyqvist being part of it.

Jbo absolutely HAS to begin with Brendan Smith otherwise there's no deal. Tfong has completely tried to avoid Smith from the trade proposals for some reason....

Edit: No way would I want Filppula. Behind-the-net, if I recall, said that Filps only got such numbers because he got mostly offensive zone starts and he rarely played against tough competition.

Who?

Cervenka? - No NHL games.
Stajan? - Use to be, hasn't been in Calgary for an extended period of time.
Backlund? - Nope.
Horak - Nope.

Cammy - He's an NHL winger, who could sub in to play C. (yes i know he grew up playing C, but not in the NHL.)
Hudler - Same as Cammy. He's a winger in the NHL.

Filppula would instantly be our best natural C. Not petitioning for him, just don't see how "we have enough #2 C's" ?

I think Backlund could really excel in Detroit under Babcock. He's a defensively responsible, smart center with some skill. How about something like:

Bouwmeester
Backlund

for

Filppula
Kindl -OR- Sproul -OR- Ouellet
2013 2nd

We lose that trade.

Jbow
Backlund

Filppula
Quincey (helps replace the minutes lost by jbow.)
Kindl
2nd.

Smith is on the level of untouchable as Baertschi I believe according to Holland, not much point in even trying to bring him up. Not entirely correct, Flippers actually got more defensive zone starts it seems this year along with Zetterberg, but you have to remember that both are capable at taking faceoffs too, but his PP and offensive starts definitely increased this year.

Wally: What I mean is that we perennially see #2 centers in Calgary like Joker, Stajan, Langkow etc... I don't believe we getting yet another #2 center will change our standing much.

I would do either of the above two listed trades involving Kindl. However you guys need to know that while Kindl plays physically and has a solid two way game, he lacks consistency and one shift he will look like a top pairing guy, and sometimes he will look like a 3rd pairing. He would be like Gio, before going to Russia and still needs to polish his game further. I don't believe he will reach his potential of a top pairing dman. Or another way to look at him is Kronwall with half the offensive level and unpolished.

Also FYI, Quincey isn't signed yet, and has filed for arbitration.

Edit: The irony of this is over on the Wings section, they think I'm offering too much for Jbo Most of the arguments revolve around lack of intensity and lack of winning history heh. So I think if both sides think I'm overpaying, I must be fairly close to the optimal trade value ranges

Filppula rides ZBerg's jock hard, and when he's not riding Zetterberg's jock, he's getting cushy minutes. You try to make him centre a line without one of the best 2-way forwards in the game and you're going to see a less dramatic version of the Stajan effect. I'd want to stay the hell away from him.

To be fair, Z has slowed down a bit. The way he plays is definitely taking a toll on his body. He has definitely lost a step but I wouldn't say Flippers would be terrible by himself. As said before the guy is a #2c, not to be confused with a #1 or someone that can take over games by himself.
