Not a surprise at all. Renney is a good coach.

Good luck to him.

Congrats. I think the assistant role is perfect for him. He's just not the best motivator.

Nice Tootoo will likely get rewarded with a game or two on the top line.

Man, who's the associate coach in Detroit again?

That guy would look great behind our bench. Detroit is a greatly run organization, might as well try to bring some of that coaching talent over here...

Surprised it didn't take long for him to find another gig in the NHL. I guess Detroit realizes he did as good as any coach could with the players he was given to work with here

Good team for him. Detroit likes to play a soft game just like Renney.

Good for Renney. Classy guy, great to hear he landed in a good organization.

All the concerns from fans, and especially some of the media like Rashaug who started the criticism on Tambellini taking his time with his thorough process and repeated everyday on radio whenever he's on, there you go.

Anyone think the Oilers and Tambellini didn't help put in some good words for Renney with Detroit? Taking the time after the season ended might have also end up helping too, as we went to tell the whole hockey world how much we think of him and considered bringing him back(even he lost the most games of any head coach in the last 2 season). At least it's better than saying "we can't get rid of you fast enough" and tell Renney to go take a hike immediately after the season ended.

Has anyone heard Rishaug retracting his criticism of this today?

As for his ties with Edmonton, Renney said they have not severed.

“I’m still a bit of a stakeholder there,” he concluded. “There are special people there from top to bottom working really hard to do something special – and they will. So how can you not sit back and sort of smile.”

I hope you're right, Tom. Best of luck in Detroit. Your blood pressure should lower a notch or two coaching there... even with the loss of Lidstrom.
