Tom was never the problem in Edmonton. We are on our 4th coach in 5 years ... perhaps the problem is management not doing their job(s). In the end, if the team doesn't have the talent or depth, you simply won't win in this league no matter who the coach is.

Out of MacT, Quinn, Renney and now Kruegar, the only one that was really out of place in the role, was Quinn. His time as a coach had clearly passed him by.

Good for Renney, he's a class act and he deserves this. Best of luck (except on the nights that the young guns light up your Wings)

Glad to see him land on his feet.

Wasn't a fan of his hyper defensive leanings and his passive additude to aggressive play, but he was a major step up from Quinn's absentminded rants/Mact's abrasive arrogance. Not to mention he towed the organization's rebuild mantra with aplomb.

Might even get a shot at coaching the Wings down the road, an organization with a history of defensive vets that would be far more able to execute his favored systems.

Just an observation. Seems Renney is a very non polarizing type of person. Posters in both Edmonton and in the Rangers forum really like(d) him and thought he was good for development, but were happy to see him go.

I think he is an excellent development type of coach, and will do very well in Detroit.

They are at the point to start bringing in new talent that needs a little babysitting.
