dubnyk almost went 500 on a team that finished 2nd last in the league, he can hold his own and on a good team he will be great.

I agree, but generally save % is more indicative of goalie performance and GAA is more indicative of team performance.

It seems some here aren't aware of what NHL goalies go for these days. 1.5 million? Pass it around friends.

Hmm. Which team had a better defence in front of them? Going to stick with 3 million.

Who are these "some" that are saying 1.5 million?

It's a more difficult assertion to make because teams that allow fewer total shots tend to lend themselves to lower save percentages than teams who allow a good number per game.

You can't really say "this is a good defensive team, therefore save percentages should be higher", it's about how they accomplish it.

No problem with this deal. Main thing is the term. Don't want to get stuck with any goalie for more than 3 years. Dubie for 2 years is fine. Cost is ... meh.

Dubnyk was in the same position as last year. He finished strong and everyone thought he would be the starter next year. After that disappointing start last year, he once again had a strong second half to the season. Hopefully he learned from last year and can pick up where he left off at the start of this season.

Toronto's team finished almost .500 last season. 35-37-10.

That got them the 5th overall draft pick.

"500" is way below average when looking at the NHL point system.

About a mil too much per year but it's not my money. Like the short term. Time for him to get to the next level or this is the fattest contract he'll ever get. Josh Harding should fire his agent.

Truth is I liked the game Dubnyk brought to the table at the end of last season. He should more consistency, more battle and more poise. I think he can be the starter here, but the first couple months of next season will be really telling for him, imo.

Yeah good goalies have good save % but what I mean is if dubnyk was in van or Boston his save % would probably be a bit higher maybe not as high as those guys but still better then what it is

Oh.. your saying Dubz is an NHL goalie..

In my eyes he could be a back-up goalie because he has yet to prove himself to be consistent at anything. Why throw money at an unproven goalie just because 'other' teams do?

I would have taken his offer to arbitration. Take whatever median you can and see if he can prove himself one last season. If not; no hard feelings and both, the team and Dubz can walk away from the situation.

He was starter at the beginning of the year. Khabiboulin stole the job from him with his amazing start. It just took Renney forever to realize that Khabby's hot streak was just a hot streak.

.916 and .914 are his sv% the last 2 seasons. He is easily NHL caliber based on those seasons. He might not be starting goaltender material but I certainly wouldn't advise taking him to arbitration over 1 year at a marginal salary...

He is an NHL goalie smart guy. Are you saying back ups aren't NHL goalies? Look around at the deals signed this year. Even backups are getting around 1.5. Dubs is going into the season as starter, and he earned it with a strong second half last year. Arbitration is never a good idea. Feelings get hurt and players end up with grudge's against management.

If I am Petry why would I lock up longer? Going to hope I continue my upward trend and cash in.

I'm saying he's not a PROVEN NHL starting goalie. So why throw money at somebody like that? I could care less if he's going into the season as a starter. He might still lose his starting position to an aging boozer~ Khabbi... just like last season. Why pay somebody who has not earned it.

Takes him to his last year as an RFA. We can lock him up long term then.

He's just waiting to become a UFA so he can take his talents to South Minneapolis.
