Wow he must have a good agent cause thats slightly to much IMO... between 2-3m would have been more ideal but whatever at least Khabi's contract is off the books at the end of next year and this is only a 2 year contract.

$3.5? To let in an AHL goal a night? How in the world did he do anything to deserve that? That seems like a Kevin Lowe wishful thinking contract. I agree he looked much better down the stretch but I haven't seen anywhere near a $3.5 million dollar goalie there. Well, its obvious this organization is a lot higher on this kid than I am.

Hope they are right and I'm wrong.

What a terrible contract.

What is wrong with Tambellini when it comes to signing goalies? This is embarrassing.

They're almost paid the same...one gets home games, the other gets road games.

I guess we know who's gonna get the majority of the games now.. but I have faith in Dubey. He lets in the odd bad goals but he's got the potential to be a #1 for sure.

Wow, that's bloody terrible. Well, at least that's incentive to start him over Khabibulin every night.

lol @ Stauffer. Dubnyk and Schneider are comparable, huh? Pass me whatever you're smoking.

What were you expecting? Did you think it would be lower than 2.5, because nobody should have. Like i said a bit of an overpayment, but i think we all knew a deal for 3 per had a reasonable chance of happening. Dubnyk is a very solid bet, and on a 2 year contract he doesn't present much risk. His contract takes up 5% of the cap, i think we can deal with that.

Duby had decent stats on a crap team. I'll save my judgement for next year.

I'll say this for Dubnyk and the contract, the UFA pool works well in his favor, that is an UGLY group of free agents that would barely be an upgrade on Habby.

So... Dubz is now worth 3.5m.. does that mean Hall/Nuge/Yako/Ebs will earn 10m each now.. when its their turn to negotiate a contract..
hmm

Edit:

I hope the cap goes up to 100m in a couple years.

Cost is too much ... by $500,000 to $1 million. That said, I love the term. Even if the contract is a mistake, it's not one you'll have to live with for too long.

I'd still love to see Khabby dealt and someone else backing up Dubnyk. The future backup could determine how good/bad of a deal this is.

i'd of been fine with 10 million over 3. it's a little high, but i'm sold on the guy, I believe he's the real deal, he's a solid goalie, somewhere between 10th and 20th in the league. And once this team starts clicking, that's all were gonna need, we don't need a guy to steal games for us, we just need one who won't lose them for us.

Agreed.. just speculating on performance at their given positions and inflated self worth.

Apples and oranges are still in the fruit family! ;P

If somebody wants to bump this thread in 2 years I know I won't have anything embarrassed to read. This deal is outrageous. I hope like hell Dubnyk plays well enough one day to earn it but based on what he's done so far this salary is almost double what he should be getting.

Heh. 3.5... whatever.

Where else are we going to put that money in the next couple seasons? Don't flip out over nothing HFoil... Not your money, and we're not a cap team yet.

If we want him to be our starter we should pay him like a starter. It's not like we are going to be cap constrained over the next two years.

Am I the only one with no faith in Tamby during negotiations. What real leverage did Dubnyk have to demand this contract. Then Sutton being a 7dman wanting to stay gets overpaid.

Sure its small overpayments but if 23 players are all slightly overpaid it will be hard to get good bang for the buck in a cap world

Edit: Just remembered the terrible Bulin contract when the goalie market was flooded. Maybe Tamby just sucks at guaging goalies
