unlike any ufa signing ever, dw has always gotten solid RFA deals so i don't see why tj would be any different. also dw is not going to do anything to pylon so stop dreaming. we are stuck w/ him period.

They need to call up Buffalo and trade Clowe and Murray for Stafford and Leapold.

NHL offices are likely closed over the weekend. Very possible that it isn't officially filed yet.

I'm really glad SJ was able to sign Galiardi. Next season is pretty darn critical for him.

I'm 93.5% sure Larry Robinson can still skate faster than Handzus.

Deal is probably in the 1.2-1.6 range that every RFA DW has signed gets prior to their last deal leading to UFA. Look at clowe, pavs, Mitchell, Demers, Braun

Galiardi probably would have gotten a fair amount more going to arbitration. $950K is lower than I thought he would sign for, well done DW

Slightly higher than what I think he's worth if you use last season as a baseline, but agreed that he would have likely gotten more in arbitration, so still a good deal. Would have liked to see a lower base salary with a performance bonus attached for hitting X amount of points.

KKurzCSN 9:21am via Twitter for Mac TJ Galiardi's one-year deal is worth $950,000 according to the NHLPA. Will be an RFA again next summer #SJSharks

Pretty sure only contracts for rookies and old people can have performance bonuses.

I think it's a good deal, I expected him to get more in arbitration. Good to see it taken care of now and not needing to wait.

Highly unlikely. DW and the agent use the same comps in private negotiation as they would in arbitration. Galiardi only had one year, two years ago, where the comps would have garnered more. "What have you done for me lately" applies in arbitration as well as private negotiations.

I think even with the 'what have you don't for me lately' way of thinking it would be highly unlikely his arbitration ruling would have been under $1 million. I would say about $1.2 million.

if his agent felt he would have gotten more in arbitration, he wouldn't have signed for 950K.

Arbitration is a brutal process that all parties would prefer to avoid, especially the player. Players will agree to sign for less to avoid arbitration, it happens often.

Players don't always get what they are worth. Maybe his agent undervalued TJ a little and thought he wouldn't have gotten more in arbitration. Not all agents are perfect. They have to make their clients happy and negotiate a fair offer from the team, which doesn't always end up with the highest dollar amount possible for the player.

His offensive and defensive numbers don't warrant >$1mil if you look at the last two years. UFAs are paid on a different scale. Comparing them is apples to oranges. If you have read arbitration transcripts, you would know that "what have you done lately" is very much in play.

The simplest way to get comps is look at others who have scored at his level over the last two years and are at his age. A close, but not perfect, example is Jack Skille of the Cats ($825k).

I really don't understand why this trade seems so popular around here. This would be a downgrade for SJ. Not to mention Clowe and Murray are the only two tough, consistently physical players we have.

I posted this in the main board thread, but thought I would post it here too: Galiardi is more skilled and has far higher potential than McGinn, but McGinn has the work ethic you would want out of a player like him. It's going to end up being a gamble, and a good one by Wilson IMO. McGinn's potential is still the type of player that is easily replaced; the same can't really be said for Galiardi. Galiardi has the potential to be a Ryan Kesler/Mike Richards type player, but he doesn't quite have the heart that McGinn does. Regardless, this trade can not simply be judged right now. We're going to have to wait a few years to see.
