I am looking forward to watching Babs really work as a coach. I am also looking forward to a team that plays better team defense and shows up for work at the first drop of the puck.

Like everyone else, I am really excited to see the younger guys compete. I hope we get to see not only Smith and Gus, but a little Tatar and Sheahan before the season is over.

IMO loo of people are undervaluing Brunner. He was ppg at WCs, 5 points in 7 games two years ago. Won the scoring title in Swiss league by fair margin. Granted the competition level is nowhere near what he'll face here but Swiss league does have some solid players who couldn't put the points that Brunner posted. I could easily see him playing all games in Detroit and deserving the top six mins better than Sammy or Bert.

Or maybe I'm too optimistic.

The season starts in September, before guys are assigned to GR. All that quote means is Babcock is going to throw him on a top line in camp and the preseason to see how he does. No way is he already guaranteeing him a spot there to start the regular season.

1. Young guys Nyquist + Smith!
2. Go Brunner & Gustavesson !
3. No Holmstrom and Emmerton(hopefully)!
4. Franzen has to be better (can't float even more than last year can he?)
5. New assistant coach -> hopefully better PP!

This doesn't seem to fit the positive line of thinking request.

Right now it would appear we are significantly younger and quicker for next year. Possibly less talented in less a couple moves are made, but Nyquist and Smith have a lot of promise, if they grab their opportunities we could surprise a lot of Wings fans around here.

It is time for our first round d-men to start realizing their potential. I also think Big E is poised to shut a lot of Wings fans up this season.

I was really disappointed by Franzén last year, as most people were, but I gotta say, he played really well in the World Championship for Team Sweden. They didn't reach very far, but Franzén and Zetterberg were Sweden's best forwards, Z looking like an absolute beast. That made me really excited about next season, I hope they carry on that attitude and level of play. Especially Zetterberg will have to play at his best, but Franzén needs to crack 30-35 goals this season, imo.

For all doom and gloom, if this past season proved anything it's just make the playoffs. Just get in and you've got a chance.

positive

Babcock is a good coach he gets a lot out of his players. I would think that once the Wings add a few FA pieces, and with the prospect pool getting seasoned there will be a few unexpected diamonds to shine.

Looking over your roster, you guys still have some star power. If Brunner pans out, and Järnkrok, and Jurco, and Pulkkinen, the cycle will renew, and again with lower round picks than everybody else.

I researched the Wings today, because i did remember them being awful around the time the NHL caught my eye. But they were just coming off the Howe years, and just before Stevie Y and the Russians.

I was amazed at the run you have had, through multiple GMs and coaches(although some excellent ones).

Peace.

Depending on what moves we make I think we are still good enough to make the Playoff's and honestly thats the only expectation I'm going to have. The team is good enough to go far it will come down to who steps up and carries the team. Next year's free agents look alot better at the moment, so as long as we can keep up the Playoff streak Ill be happy. This team isn't the greatest but it's alot better then most people on these boards think.

I think there needs to be a "Positive Talk" sub-forum or something; some place where others can have actual discussions about the Wings and Red Wing hockey instead of having to sift through literally hundreds of "ZOMG THE WINGZ SUX0RRRZZZZZZ BURN HOLLAND AT TEH STEAK FAIL FOR __________" posts.

This season will prove how good our coaching staff is. It may prove Howard to be a top 10 goaltender in the league. We'll see how Datsyuk and Zetterberg handle the role as the leaders of this team without Lidstrom. We'll see how Kronwall steps up. We get to see Nyquist and Smith in top 6 and top 4(respectively) minutes. To me, this season has a lot of question marks going into it and certainly, from the outskirt, shows that this will be the most tumultuous season in probably 20 years for our franchise.

I'm looking forward to seeing the young players have bigger roles this season. I have a question. Suppose we can't make a deal for Nash or Ryan, and we lose out on Semin. If Jurco has a preseason similar to Nyquist's last year, does he have a shot to make the team? I'd love to see what he could do on Pavel's wing.

If Smith is as good as Fugu thinks he is, the Wings will be right back on top in short order.

I'm just happy I could crack the line-up after your dog signed ALL UFA's.

Next off-season Edler, Enstrom, Scuderi, Vlasic and there's even a slim chance Weber are all set to be free-agents. Now that doesn't mean any of them will make it to free-agency, but it's something to be hopeful about.

This isn't really a positive, but so far our best off-season move was NOT re-signing Hudler...so that's something.
