if DiPietro can somehow stay marginally healthy this year, start around 25-30 games and not end his season with any sort of injury.
I'd consider Rick and a 1st round pick for the rights to Cam Janssen. You're welcome.
Do you Islanders fans think that he'll retire within the next few years?
Only way I see him retiring is if he is not medically cleared to play(which at this point it a possibility). I am not sure how insurance works in his case if he is forced to retire but he might be able to retire due to injury and get a nice payday
Nobody is going to take DP's contract in the near future. In a few years, maybe a team will want to unload a long deal for a declining player, say a deal with 3 or 4 years x $7M, whereas DP will have 5 or 6 years x $4.5M.
As for the contract, it is bad, but it was also bad luck. Before his injuries, he had 4 straight years playing 50+ games with a s% > .900. Not outstanding, but solid. He was an all-star and played in the Olympics. Then the injuries destroyed his career.
The same thing could happen to Quick or Rinne. The same thing could have happened to Zetterberg or any of the other players who signed long-term deals.
I never liked the deal because I never thought DP was a great goalie. The team was banking on his continued improvement. I wouldn't have. But it is the injuries that made the deal go from fair to horrible.
Honestly, I don't feel it's a priority to trade Komisarek, as most leafs fans do.
We are not super close to the cap, and we just got some cap relief by buying out Armstrong anyway. After trading Schenn there is no longer a surpluss of experienced D on the team, especially of the shut-down/defensive-specialist kind.
And I am actually interested in seeing what new coach Carlyle can do for Komi. Remember, this is the same coach that got Beauchemin back into form after leaving Toronto. I have high hopes that Carlyle can get Komi back into a player we could use.
I'd do it if Isles add a first. Thats about the only way I touch that contract.
Even if that pick is FIRST overall the Leafs don't touch that contract. Let's face it; salary cap room is an asset and when a team adds $4.5 million for 10 years that would handcuff the team from signing an RFA in 3 years, or trying to sign that one big free agent to fit the pieces together for a contending team.
In addition, the ownership would not want to pay $45 million to a player that has a history of injuries. It doesn't matter if MLS&E has deep pockets, no ownership in their right mind would pay that much to one player who will not be playing for the majority of those years. Both Bell and Rogers did not become media juggernauts by throwing away money like that, and you can bet that ownership would block a deal of this nature regardless of the assets coming back.
Charles Wang is stuck with that contract, there is no team dumb enough to take that contract on. Bob Gainey is not a general manager anymore.
Agree with video on first page, this post is irrational. Give us Taveras and we will include Gardiner, Bozak and give you Connolly :-). Wang saves money, leafs buyout Ricky.

Wow I'm really hoping the at the end of your post applies to the bolded, because next year's 1st OA is MacKinnon.
If the Habs were below the cap floor and needed to add a contract to reach it, I'd gladly take back Komisarek and stick up back on his old pairing with Markov. In a heart-beat.

sure send the Leafs Rene Bourque and the deal gets done
Wow, all the bile directed at an injured player is really uncalled for.
Look at all the 10-13 year contracts in the league now. There but for the grace of God goes other teams and players.
Obviously the propoesd deal makes no sense for Toronto. But what's happened to DP is sad. I feel terrible for the guy when I see him trying to get back up, obviously in tremendous pain.
Anybody who thinks the guy should retire and give up his salary is completely full of it. Think.
Its a gamble for both teams, can turn out really well, but what do they have to lose? If rick can stay healthy leafs get a starter and isles get a top 4 dman who can fill the void til Reilly is ready. Both players have horrible contracts and need a Change of scenery and start fresh.
How many years does Dipietro have left? There's your answer.

Isles want the 4.5M cap hit, they wouldn't be so desperate to trade him away.

I'd take Mackinnon/Jones if it meant taking 4.5M in heartbeat. You don't have enough young players that will demand ultra-expensive contracts anyway.

Awful deal for the Leafs.I don't see why they'd do it.
DiPietro's played a total of 47 games in the last 4 yrs.
He can't stay healthy.

Let's put down the bong. That suggestion is as silly as the Tavares+ DiPietro cap dump suggestions, some Leaf fans have posted.
Wang shows no desperate wish to dump DiPietro.Isles seem content to wait and let him reach the conclusion that his body will not hold up and let insurance pay the bulk of his remaining contract.

Don't get pissy because other teams aren't willing to play the Leafs role,in a repeat of the Bruins Sequin draft watch
Leafs will not be using a NYI 1st round pick, to draft a potential franchise player.
DiPietro's buyout will be $1.5m per,if he's bought out.
If he retires, insurance pays the bulk of his contract.
