EDM & TO (Komi)

I know that his value is low but EDM needs a big guy that hits and plays hard, he would be on the 3rd pairing in EDM.

He only has 2 yrs remaining on his contract with a cap hit of 4.4m but actual money is 7m.

I am thinking a 3rd round pick for him.

Thoughts on this?

This will also give Burke some more cap space to improve his fwds.

No interest from EDM in Komi as a player or his cap hit.
Komi has negative value, not worth anything close to a 3rd.

Please close thread. Just not happening and this discussion has been done to death many times.previously.

I think this move makes sense for both teams and Komi... gives him a fresh start with a good group of young guys he can mentor and gives the Leafs some flexibility to make a spash and give ice time to their younger D men

I think a 4th gets it done..

Edmonton needs top end defensive talent, not more 3rd pairing guys. Especially not 3rd pairing guys at 4.4m (I know we can afford the cap but it seems pointless)

Why would Edmonton give up a 3rd round pick for a guy the Leafs want to just give away? Try more like:

Komosarek
3rd round pick

For

7th round pick

Makes perfect sense for leafs but zero sense for EDM. Hall and Ebs need new contracts in the next year so we don't want that pylon taking up a large chunk of valuable cap space.

Honestly I'm interested to see what Komi will do in a more defensive system with Carlyle.

I don't expect him to be what he was in Montreal, but if he can be a reasonable bottom-pairing defender and vet presence, I'll take it.

Wait, so Edmonton adds Schultz while Toronto loses Schenn yet somehow they need less help on the blueline then we do?

As bad as our defence is, it was better in terms of shots against and goals against. I don't see how adding Komi will help the team. Sutton is already a better player at that number 6 spot at way less money.

I guess the 3rd was a bit high, I see EDM needing a big shut down dman for the next 2 yrs until the young guys come up and there is not much out there it seems. I think Komi would do fine on the 3rd pairing.

TO fans say yes
EDM fans say no

I knew it was rough for Komi but didn't know it was that bad.

Edmonton already has Sutton for way less money and Peckham who play the same role. Komi to Edmonton only helps the Leafs. With Whitney, Schults (Nick), Smid and Sutton signed already the Oil don't need to add a body just for the sake of adding a vet to the 3rd pairing.

Would rather have Sutton for cheap than Komisarek and his ridiculous contract.

Edit: I see that somebody beat me to it.

plus teubert isn't that far away from being the big hard nosed guy either, and plante is still in the mix possibly, plus peckham... not the kind of defense the oilers are looking for. They got the kind of guy they were looking for (if a legit #1 wasn't to be had) in schultz.

OIlers D depth

Petry
Smid
N Schultz
J Schultz
Whitney
Sutton
Potter
Peckham

Plus Teubert and Plante in the minors and you never know how Fedun might do as well.

We have plenty third pairing guys there, and Sutton is more effective than Komi for a fraction of the cost.

Not going to happen

Komisarek is not the guy to go after. If the Oilers want a guy like that they should try and overpay Hannan for a year.

I think the Oilers would want a "sweetener" in any deal for Komisarek.

Maybe something like Komisarek and Franson for Omark and a pick.

Komi is better than most at least 4 other players on the team. Plus his salary is lower than his cap hit so management will like that and the oilers are no where near the ceiling so any talk of salary is silly.

The deal makes sense only for future considerations (basically nothing).

You're missing all the Edm feedback. Komi's cap hit could mess up our cap since Eberle and Hall need new contracts and I believe Smid is in line for a raise given his level of play. Cap space is more important for us than the real dollars earned.

Which 4 players is Komi better than? I'd take Smid, Schultz (N), Sutton ahead of him for various reasons and you really can't compare him to offensive types. At 4M+ cap hit he's too expensive to be sitting on the bottom pairing.

Future considerations aren't enough. He's a pure dump and would follow similar deals in the past. Look at what Lombardi cost to move...or even Kotalik for a base. Komi may have more raw value but his cap/pay are killers to most teams.

I'll take a conditional 7th round pick, if Komisarek wins the norris, conn smythe, and cup with Edmonton in the next 2 years we get their 7th round pick in 2014

if that doesn't happen we get nothing.

So come on Oilers what do you say it's practicly free

We'll take Komisarek if you take Horcoff. We have our own dead weight to worry about.

Try unloading that contract on a team that doesn't have one worse than your own.

Horcoff's contract is longer, bigger, and Leafs already have too many tweener forwards. No way.

Btw, OP is an Oilers fan, so don't blame Leafs fans for this thread.
