I really like Chipchura. He is willing to fight when necessary and he seems like a Torres but an under-the-radar Torres. So Shanahan isn't watching for him to do something.
Brule, Doan...then let's go for some other big name to add to our roster.
He's earned a one way, for sure. This seems like a fair contract for both sides.
ClownQ, one of the primary differences in Torres and Chipchura is Raffi has averaged something like 18 goals per 82gp in his NHL career. Chipchura is more like 5g per 82gp. That said, Chipchura is much more versatile. He can play all three forward positions, is good at face offs, and is a quality PKer.
Glad to have him back. I rather liked our fourth line this year and he's a solid piece of it. Re-sign Brule, replace Langkow (Klinkhammer? Not sure who), and that's a good-looking fourth line if you ask me.
This is assuming Klinghammer, Conner and Bissonnette are probably just healthy scratches/injury callups/AHL fodder.
That second line slot is Doan's if he wants it, but even if he gets $6 million a year, Maloney still needs to spend another $5 million to get the floor.
So I think if Doan sticks around, Maloney could make a play for someone like Hemsky and toss him on the Czech line and bump Sullivan down to the third at even strength and make him a PP specialist. If Doan walks, then Maloney needs to bring in someone like Hemsky to flesh out the top six and then probably go after an albatross with upside like Tim Connolly just to get to the floor. I don't think the Coyotes have the assets to trade for two guys of Hemsky's talent level, and there's just nobody that worth signing for that price.

True. And to be honest, the things I really remember Chipchura for are fighting and getting some good checks in. I don't remember him getting too many goals...

I was actually just thinking the Coyotes might just trade for Tim Thomas and let him hang out wherever he is. I'm not sure if they'd actually have to pay him, but he wouldn't even have to step foot in Arizona and they would be $5 million closer to the floor for either 0 dollars or $3 million. Seems too zany for Maloney though. But he's going to have to do something weird.
There's also still a nice crop of RFAs still on the board. I don't expect to see Maloney go after any of them (at least not via offer sheet), but if Evander Kane or Jamie Benn or TJ Oshie gets a huge raise, maybe some team is suddenly looking to clear salary.

LaBarbera was 3-9-3 last season. Just awful. Mason could do better. Smith could get some rest. Hell, Mason could improve so much that he suddenly gets a whole lot of trade value. He will still be RFA next off season.

It's a move I would make, but Maloney and Tippett seem to like LaBarbera and feel that what he adds when he's not playing offsets the ****tiness he brings when he does play.
Buy out LaBarbera, stick him in the front office. (why would anybody trade for him?)
Upgrade Langkow's roster spot
Trade Bissonette, Chipchura makes him expendable
carry 23 players on the roster - maybe go against the norm at the beginning and carry 8 d-men
Glad we got Chipchura and I don't know what to do about Barbs but I'd like to upgrade so we could get 20-22 games out of our #2 without risking only getting 10-14 points out of his games. 9 points out of 15 games does nothing to make me feel good about the #2 goalie.
Brule would be a decent signing, but come on guys, next Brule THEN Doan?
I don't know about the rest of us, but the main reason I'm thinking about Brule instead of Doan is because if Doan re-signs with us it'll be because it was his decision. I don't feel like we really have much control over it unless we do something crazy like throw $8 million a year at him, which GMDM wouldn't do.

I'm not even sure the league would let him. But avoiding the hit this fanbase would take after losing Doan is easily worth the extra 3m. Assuming he actually would take a pile of money over stability, which I'm not sure of.
Glad to see Chip re-signed. I liked his game enough that he was definitely worth signing to a decent contract.

There is no possible way Doan signs anywhere prior to July 9th. I want Brule signed yesterday. It's not yet the ninth. That's why there is a "then". Pretty obvious.
