Good signing. Never would have made the Devils with our depth but he has good potential.

Hopefully he can take advantage of this chance. I liked what I saw in his little time with the Devils.

i liked tao. i'm not sad to see him go, since we have too much depth for him, but he's a decent #6/7 with a very deflectable wrister.

Stood out in the limited games I saw the Devils. Is a nice guy to have for depth and can move the puck well for a #7/#8

Victim of our defensive logjam. He's got skill and good hockey sense. I can see him doing well in Tampa.

Unless Tampa is going to trade a current Dman, he'll be in Syracuse.

Good pickup though, a very good candidate to call up in case of an injury.

Shrewd signing, okay defensively and has the potential to be a good offensive 3rd pairing defenseman who can serve as a PP QB.

That's very important. Our main PP dmen (Salo, Bergeron) are coming off of injury shortened seasons. This is a nice option to have.

Great to see SY pay most of his attention to the D this offseason. It could turn into a strength in a few years if they keep going like this.

How is he a 7 or 8?

I thought Tampa's depth chart looked like this:

Carle
Hedman
Salo
Brewer
-------------> Where I would place Taormina
Commodore
Clark
Lee
Aulie
Bergeron

Still don't know why they were so adamant of keeping Bergeron around.

Thats a good thing. He will most likely play for us this year if this is the case. As for Bergeron, Boucher really likes him. He brings a lot of hustle and has a good shot for the PP. His game is effort really. Never had much defense to his game which is his risk. I never really liked him but he does work hard and sometimes surprisingly brings a little grit when we need it. We could do without him though honestly.

Devils fan here. I think Taormina is an NHL defenseman. Plays a game very similar to Rafalski, although not as good.

Commodore and Clark are no longer in the TB organization (they are UFA)

Bolded players who won't be on the team next year.

This is the depth chart (roughly).
Hedman
Carle
Brewer
Salo
Lee
Mikkelson
Aulie (Two way contract, maybe plays in AHL)
Bergeron
Ohlund (Injured)

If Taormina makes the team, great! He's played very few NHL games though, so it's kind of hard to judge where he would be in the depth chart.

24pts in 43 games aint bad. He's on the team to play on the PP and when he is healthy he is very good at that.

Not a bad signing, although I think it'll be for Syracuse. Taormina won't be a bad guy to recall and I like the Yzerman is making sure he's adding a lot of defensemen, knowing that has been his team's weakness.

I'd put Hedman, Carle, Brewer, Salo, Aulie, and Lee before Taormina for sure, maybe even Mikkelson. Taormina's like a younger Bergeron without the cannon shot and better defensively. He really didn't look bad in his NHL games.

Bergeron's useful though. If they don't want to play him as a defenseman, they can play him as a forward and use him on the PP point, which is really what you want to use him for.

i suppose it would be hard to overpay him by a mil as well considering what he'll make.

Thats basically what we do with him if we dont need him to play much. Injuries were the only thing that got him minutes back there. PP is a different story. Thats where he excells.
