Fair enough. None are perfect comparables, but considering all except Carle were signed before the last 2 years of UFA escalation, you may want to rethink your position. Looking at PPG and +/-:
I'd put Vlasic below Carle, a little below Martin (recent production notwithstanding), but definitely above Volchenkov. I looked at Michalek, and we Coyotes are really high on him (primarily because he's a legitimate 1st line RHD which we lacked), but his +/- is nowhere near the others on the list. I'd value Vlasic above him by a decent margin.
Factoring in the recent UFA escalation and Vlasic would get 5yrs/25m on the open market easy. If you guys could get 5/22.5 I'd take it and run.
Looking at current NHL trends I expect 10-12 years at 4M per.
I wish we could sign some of our guys for that long at that price. That way we can attack FA and make all the trades we need with tons of space to spare. 10-12 may be too long so how about 8 years long. That way we have a period in which to attack big name FA at least.
One is an offensive player, the other is defensive. I don't think it's fair to compare them.
Carle is better defensively than he often gets credit for. But your point stands because what little offensive ability Vlasic has is saved for pissing off other French Canadians.
If he's playing with Burns, he'll be more defensive. If he's with Boyle, he'll be even more defensive.
Unless the boy's been eating his Wheaties and shooting 1000s of pucks a day, his shot's not gonna get through on target...
Disagree, if Vlasic plays with Burns an entire season I absolutely see a career year ahead. Vlasic was playing the best hockey of his career paired with Burns, and now that we have Stuart to pair with Boyle, Vlasic should be free to do so. Whichever he plays with though he is going to leach assists if nothing else. I think 35 points is a safe bet next season barring injury.
Signing Vlasic would make sure that we have our top defensive pairing in place for years to come. I still dont know if he will get 5M on the open market like some others think. He is primarily a shutdown defenseman and unless he shows otherwise this year he is not going to get 5M.

What?! Look, he thinks he's people!
I hope the first pair is Burns Vlasic followed by Boyle Stuart
I don't know which Vlasic you've been watching. The one I watch gets his shot blocked often and is pensive when trying to move the puck. He is a smooth passer Alan Boyle, Demers or Burns...

It's a confidence issue. It tends to happen when a player has shown they have the ability but they haven't shown the confidence to do it on a regular basis. If you remember when Vlasic had that offensive burst for a couple games, it started with one point then another assist and then a goal. He was jumping in on plays and he was playing well on the offensive. No one ever said he was as gooad as Boyle or Burns or Demers in that aspect but he's shown the ability.

I can agree with this.
If he produces primary assists then that will be an indication he's overcome his confidence issue. Until then he's s defensive dman.
