He was jumping in on plays and he was playing well on the offensive. No one ever said he was as gooad as Boyle or Burns or Demers in that aspect but he's shown the ability.
Even so, I don't think Vlasic will get enough PP time in the near future to get the type of points that an "offensive" D-man gets.

I don't think any of us expect him to do that but I'd be happy if he starts hitting 30 points and ecstatic if he got 40+.

He has zero offensive ability. If he gets more than $4-4.5M, it is an overpayment.

What makes it untrue? If he had any offensive skill it wouldnt matter what his d partner was he would still be putting up 30+ points. But vlasic needs a defensemen to leetch off of for his points.

In a way, it depends more on what role Vlasic is given. Although who his partner is effects this

If anything, he's been completely benefitting from his talented offensive teammates. One look at the eye test, and you know it's not his offensive ability racking up those assists.

Oh the classic secondary assist argument.

A quick eye test may tell you that Vlasic has a good slot pass and has the ability to feed the transition very well

Another look tells you he has no poise with the puck, an incredibly weak shot (that he cant get through to the net) - and this is his 7th or 8th year in the league? guys, this is as good as it's getting for him on offense.

He isn't even in his prime yet. What do you mean he has no poise with the puck? He does get his shot through. Did you know he only had three goals less this season than that offensive juggernaut Suter. He also only had 15 less shots. As a fun fact Vlasic's career high in goals is two less than Suter's career high.

Yeah but he's over the hill now, no way for him to improve, he will always be two goals less than suter!

It seems that the role they have him play is more important to his lack of production than his actual ability. Its a lot harder to score goals at the blue line, then it is while creeping up near the FO circle. Playing with guys like boyle and burns who constantly are playing the offensive D role, makes it a lot less likely that vlassic will get in there too. Cant have both your dmen jump into the play, and we all know how much burns and boyle like to go down low.

When he was paired with a very defensively sound player like blake he had his highest totals ever, because Vlassic could be the one to play a little more loose knowing that blake was not one who jumped up in the play alot because he could boom shots from the point.

Its too bad for Vlassic, but he is just too good defensively, and we have really good ODmen like boyle and burns, leaving vlassic playing that role of stay at home Dman. Harder to score when you arent the one getting up in the play a lot.

Although Boyle is an exceptional player, I don't agree with this at all. I don't believe MEVlasic will be a "difficult" UFA to negotiate with. Granted, he may sign elsewhere, but I'd at least give him the benefit of an offer rather than outright trade.

English translation as per Google:

Quote:
The San Jose Sharks will announce that they have extended the contract of defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic to 17h this afternoon, depending on what the TVA Sports has learned.
Former Quebec Remparts elapse last season of his contract in 2012-2013. Then he will pocket $ 3.7 million (3.1 M4 under the salary cap).
More details to come.

I can confirm Vlasic signs 5 year extension with #SJSharks. Hearing total around 17.5M$.

Even though people give him a lot of crap, he's actually been right on a few things. Usually he doesn't post term and money like that unless hes got a solid source

Yep. I have been following him and he was early on some of the signings. That caphit is awesome if it is true.

$3.5 would be a massive, massive steal for the Sharks. Vlasic, by the numbers, was one of the best defensive d-men in the NHL last year. If he puts up 30+ points again with Burns (which I see as highly likely) we'd have one awesome #2 locked up for a pittance.

My bet is thats not true.
