Coyotes-Oilers

The Yotes need to reach the cap floor and Maloney said himself he's looking trade rather than sign. We lost Whitney to a division rival and his creativity will not be replaced just by the signing of Sullivan. Edmonton needs a more established defense, and we have a still young, and up and coming sound two way defenseman in David Schlemko. So how about:

To EDM:
David Schlemko
Viktor Tikhonov
3rd round pick in 2013

To PHO:
Ales Hemsky

Tikhonov and the 3rd are not worth anything. Schlemko doesnt make it any better. It's not worth Edmonton's while to make this trade. Hemsky will still get interest and the Coyotes arent the only ones with cap-space.

I guess Connor Murphy could be a reasonable starting point. Injury prone risk for another injury prone player.

Schlemko, Murphy +2nd for Hemsky.

The 2nd becomes a 1st if Hemsky stays healthy and helps the Coyotes into the playoffs.

The Oilers expect Hemsky to return to pre-injury form. If you want his services, you should offer something that reflects that.

There's probably some deal that could be made, but, like I said before, the Oilers seem to value Hemsky highly.

His shoulder injuries

He has missed a ridiculous number of games in the past few seasons. Before that he was just below a PPG player

They should be. Hemsky is an elite player. If Hemsky stays healthy he should be a 75-80pt player.

Hemsky is not being moved in a deal like that. Nothing proven coming back, no thank you. The only prospect I am interested in is Gormley.

Haha rt shut up you're on my team. I've been in military training for a while and last i heard Edmonton wanted to get him off the books, but by tgem asking for Gormley, it looks as if they still believe he can catch top end value. Nevertheless, it was worth a try, but this thread isnt looking so good.

They re-signed him to a two year, ten million dollar extension and he has yet to play a game of it. If they didn't want him, they wouldn't have given him that deal a few months ago. They'd want a top prospect. Schlemko is nice and all, a real solid player, but basically a dime a dozen. His value would be to a cap team because he can give you a lot of solid minutes for a very low cap hit.

I really believe one of the main issues to be resolved in the new CBA is that most teams aren't making a profit. So why would they insist that this current idea of having the floor sit at $16Mil less than the ceiling and not more reflective as a % instead. My guess is that they will go back to a 2/3 as in the first year of the current (or last depending on your perspective) which puts it at ~ $47Mil instead of $54Mil. The alternative is rolling back the player's salary.
I just can't see the notion of forcing a team to take on payroll to be cap compliant when they are having a hard time with producing a profit and one of the reasons why they aren't producing a profit.

I can't believe for a minute in an argue of the Coyotes won't be able to compete with a lower payroll (at least for the moment).

No way. I know hemmer doesn't get the best rep on hf but this is not even close. Doesn't fill any real needs for Edmonton as we need a top pairing dman not more 2nd or 3rd pairing guys. Tikhonov is unproven and I really cant see him as part of the oil top 9 with our depth there.

What about Rundblad in the package from Phoenix for Hemsky? Or is that as bad as asking for Gormley?

I would do something around Runblad + minor piece for Hemsky, for Gormely you'd have to add.
