I you can grab him on a 1 or 2 year deal, do you take it? The options seem to be limited at this point. You can make him the dominant shot on the PP, and I think he could do very well. I think he has a little more edge than he's shown, and he won't cost the world. He's no Nash or Ryan, but i those deals don't work out, then would this be an acceptable alternate? I think so.
Without Nash or Ryan, this would till be a very competent top 6...
Sure, but so would almost any other team in the NHL.
We shouldn't try for semin IMO.
Well, there are better options... but when it comes to dropping major assets or Nash or Ryan... or an 8-10 year contract or Parise (who I love, but still..) ... a 2 year 12-13 million dollar deal may not be a bad option... he could pot 30-40...
semin doesn't fit our mold and torts might strangle him but if we were looking at radulov then i see no reason why we wouldn't also consider him...
he is FAR from my top choice but every day/week that passes and the insane asking prices in trades doesn't go down my interest will go up...especially if its a 1 year deal and then look for a longer solution in a much better ufa class next summer.
why do we think semin would sign a 1 year deal? especially, if he ends up playing for torts and gets benched a lot. That could really drive down his value come next off-season.

no one is saying he'll take a one year deal, just that their interest in him is dependent on a short term deal. too many issues and concerns to give him big $$ for long term.
I was sorta on the Semin bandwagon, but figured it would be a bad idea.
However, after seeing "party boy" and noted "locker room cancer" Jeff Carter play a big role in winning the Kings, a team built similarly to ours, the cup, I would actually be pretty happy nabbing Semin for the right price.
YESSSS! we need ****ing scoring, he can score! Idc if he doesn't fit into torts system, make him fit. This man has one of the best shots I've ever seen.

The man has raw skill, AND he's young. You can't miss on this.
Just trade Dubi for a prospect and a 3rd and we have room.
I'd be exploring other options first. Semin has tremendous skill. He plays right wing. Gaborik and Cally are right wings. If one of them can move to the left, which to me would have to be Semin, I would not be opposed to having it be for 1 year. Anything more and you throw up the red flags. I don't see many teams throwing big bucks at him. The Rangers are a team he can go to, play on a good team and prove to either NY or the rest of the NHL that he is worth a long term deal.
A player that is motivated and has his kind of skill could be something this team needs for next season.
i don't like the idea of semin as our only option, but if he is our only option i'd certainly offer him a 1 year deal overpaying or 3 paying a fair wage. def not the top of my list though
interesting. depends on the pricetag. he can score, which is what the rangers need most now. a not-so-great attitude/work ethic can be improved by a good environment. vice versa can also happen. i think the rangers have a good environment though. not sure this guy's really a 'bad influence' anyhow. is there substantiation?
I also would love to see semin in the team untill this one guy started about his name on the back of your shirt and the jokes that come with it in english hahahaha, enough to not want him I can't find that post but it was to funny.
We've seen Lisin, Zherdev, Zuccarello, and Wolski struggle to find a role in Tortorella's system. I understand that Semin is on a completely different level from all three of those guys but forget it. Dubinsky busts his ass, even if sometimes unproductively, every night. And still gets benched. And at least Zherdev acted like he cared. All it would take is one lazy backcheck or tripping penalty and Semin would be riding the bench the rest of the game. And those are frequent occurrences for Semin. I don't think there is a single top-six forward in the NHL who would be a worse fit here than Semin.

The Rangers did the whole, "acquire a bunch of talented players and make them fit" thing from 2000-2008. Since Tortorella came, they've acquired players who fit the system. You tell me which strategy has been more successful and has led to a better organizational state of being.
I like Semin a whole lot better than Nash, given what we'd have to give up for the latter. Semin will help the power-play, and plug in some scoring until Gabby is healthy.
I guess I would fall into the "nay" category. Semin has tremendous skill, no denying that, but his heart is questionable. He put up modest numbers for a sniper the past two seasons (b2b 54 pts. seasons), he's rather injury prone, and has developed a reputation as a mediocre teammate (he's been called out a couple times in the past season). He definitely doesn't do the things it takes to win, his game isn't complete enough to keep Torts happy. Forget about this guy playing defense, blocking shots, and throwing hits. And if you're paying a player like Semin to score, he has to be free to do it... trying to pound a square peg into a round hole? Stupid.
Oh, and he disappeared in the playoffs (4 pts. in 14 games). And some people were complaining about Gaborik! (not myself)
Semin is a "plan D" in my books. No doubt he'd look good along side Richards for stretches at a time. He'd help the PP. A short term contract, don't care about the dollar amount, but no longer than 2 seasons... if at all. I'd prefer the Rangers to target a scorer better suited for the system, via trade if the UFA route isn't possible.
