8 D-men on one-way contract...trade?

We have a lot of D-men and obviously need to upgrade offensively.
This currently seems like the best way to upgrade (Kulikov would be the obvious choice).

This could probably go in the other thread, but I think it warrants its own thread since it's specific. Who goes? Do all 8 stay? Makes no sense to keep all 8, imo. 7 is enough + we have good enough depth after the 7th.

Ellerby for something. Won't even really care what the return is, he deserves a chance to play somewhere else.

So, which team needs Ellerby?

No way, don't think Nash is worth that. I really have no interest in Nash. Mostly because of the supposed asking price, but I think he's slightly overrated, especially at the price.

Nash might be able to give us 10-15 more goals than Versteeg if he's playing great hockey. That's not an upgrade worth Howden and Kulikov. Howden + Kulikov for Nash I could get see doing. Or Howden and Kulikov for Ryan, although they said they want a second line center.

He is a bit overrated but a change of scenery could do him wonders.

Tallon just resigned Keaton today, he couldn't possibly trade him right away could he...

TBH I think Kulikov's gonna be traded for some legit offensive help. He wasn't a Tallon pick and our D pool looks promising. I could be wrong.

I think trading Kulikov would be a mistake. Who cares if Tallon didnt draft him? Kid's a stud to- be.

Agreed, before his injury he was lighting it up, I'm sure with a summer to recover he will have a break out year.

Upcoming UFA Weiss who is highly likely to re-sign because he actually likes playing in Florida, a 21yo defenseman who is already top 4 and improving every year AND a 1st rounder for a center that had fewer points than Weiss last year while playing with better linemates and a goalie we don't need.

Sorry, I'll pass.

Also, Bjugstad hasn't played a minute in the NHL and you're anointing him as our 2C .. That's even if he signs this year instead of going back to the Gophers.

And count me in the same group with "trading Kulikov would be a tremendous mistake."

IMO, it's not about who drafted him, but what can be gotten for him. He'd be missed for sure, but to be able to bring in a star offensive threat can't be overlooked, either.

Not to mention he had surgery on his shoulder and won't be back until November.

I could see Ellerby + in a trade to Edmonton for Gagner or Hemsky. They need D. We need offense.

Ellerby, Santorelli ($$/change of scenery) and a decent prospect for either. McFarland?

Kulikov for a Ryan trade would be interesting but I would hate to lose Kuilkov. I see him ending up our best defenseman.

I want Kulikov signed to a deal similar to the one Erik Johnson just got. Only if we can get a legit, youngish 1st line player signed to a good contract should we move him.

Keep all 8 d-men. Send Strachan to San Antonio. You can never have enough defensive depth.

I know, but we're apparently not going to spend a lot of money this summer anyway, seeing as how we're not signing any of the big fish to expensive contracts. I think we can afford to swallow Strachan's contract. He's going to get some NHL games anyway, unless we are blessed with a healthy blueline all season.
