I saw that he was signed by Florida and got excited for him. I'm going to be honest with you all, before this season I didn't like him. He didn't have that certain quality that you look for in a goaltender to me and didn't have that big game aspect in him. He was good, but not great.
This past season, he improved. It was a very clear improvement and I think that the Knights improvement in the standings and his improvement go hand in hand. They had a great team yes, but he was also a very big reason in so.
He may never make the NHL, but I think he has a chance. His mental game has improved, he's much better in high pressure situations than he used to be and I think he may be able to make a contribution in the NHL probably about 5-6 years out from now.
I'm thrilled for him that an NHL club took a chance on him and hope he impresses the Florida Panthers brass enough to get a good chance.
I was hoping we would sign either him or Makarov to a contract since we didn't pick up a goalie at the draft. Both guys are quality prospects to have in the system and I think it's a no-brainer move on the organizations part. Houser screams character as well, he has battled hard to get where he is at this point.
Sounds like he has overcome a lot to make it as far as he has. Hopefully he continues to develop and doesn't plateau at his current level as some people seem to think, which seems odd to me due to how much he improved last year. Any idea where he will play this year?
Where are these two slotted to play? I would guess Cincinnati for Houser (barring a huge shift in goaltending numbers) and maybe San Antonio for McFadden. From what I hear, they are looking for more defense...
