Better overall player avail by trade: Luongo or Nash
Nash has the better term, Luongo the better cap hit. If I'm assuming my team doesn't have any specific needs, then I'll have to assume that I have a better than competent option in goal already. Any team could find a spot in their forward rotation for Nash. Depending on the caliber and contract of your above average goalie, Luongo may or may not be an attractive option in net.
In short, Luongo might be the better player right now but specifically for a team with no glaring weaknesses Nash might be the more desirable player.
You can't straight up compare a goaltender and a power forward without having reference to a team's needs, but I'm gonna say that the goalie comes out on top because goalies are objectively more important positions.
Completely OT, but I still hate this type of thing, yet EVERYONE says it... over and over and over.
Apples can be compared to oranges. There are varying degrees of good/bad apples vs. good/bad oranges. Most people would take a spectacular orange over a good apple and vice versa-- just because you can't look at direct details and compare, and can be impossible to compare if they're in reasonably similar shape, they're both just food that you eat and hope tastes good-- Why the hell not compare which one you think tastes better?
I think Sidney Crosby is better than Ryan Suter, Henrik Lundqvist is better than Patrick Marleau, and The Wire is better than The Hangover. It doesn't make any sense to say you can't make comparisons between things that are different, IMO. Especially in this case, where we're picking between two players in the same league playing the same game and capable of contributing to different degrees.
....... But in this case, I can't decide. It kind of annoys me that it seems like we can't get someone even close to as good as Nash for Luongo considering the answer isn't easy for most people, though. Imagine how much a guy like Nash could help.

He never says they cannot be compared. The point he was trying to make was, it would come down to subjective preferences.
If I were building a team around either? Take the position of more importance: Luongo. If Nash were a center I think I'd have a much harder time deciding.

Yeah, just like Jonathan Quick (at least last year) was the better player then say Ryan Suter... But in a trade, I'm guessing Ryan Suter would command a lot more value/assets in return.
You use 12 forwards in a line-up for a total of 360 forwards in the league (more when considering people rotate in and out) while there's only 60 spots for goalies... A lot more demand/need for good forwards then good goalies (even if a goalie can make a difference in a game a lot easier then a forward can).
