If Luongo does well in the world series of poker does that up his trade value by proving he can perform under pressure ?

It is already a circus and worse being that Luongo is in a media crazy canadian hockey town. It will be a mistake to start the season with Luongo still in Vancouver. This will be a cancer in the locker room

I wonder if there's a chance Lu goes to Florida for a small return then Tallon flips him to the Hawks, that'd be so dirty.

Luongo would still have his NTC. He wouldn't waive it if he got to Florida.

Hate to break it to you, but they are doing the exact same thing right now...

If you compare value strictly in terms of the skill of the players in question relative to their peers, it comes out all right. Hossa and Luongo are roughly even in that sense. The issue is that there are ~120 roster spots in the NHL for Marian Hossa to contribute from. He could play on any team's first or second line. Every team in the NHL wants a Hossa caliber player on the wing, multiple Hossa's even.

Luongo on the other hand has 30 potential slots.

With things how they are currently, take away:
Carolina
Nashville
Rangers
Devils
Kings
Montreal
St. Louis
Detroit
Boston
Pittsburgh
Buffalo
Winnipeg
Anaheim
Vancouver

And potentially a few others, as they all have their goaltending well in hand.

You are left with ~16 openings for Luongo, ignoring teams with cap constraints, and those who are not interested for other reasons.

Difference in supply and demand.

LOL, we have no leverage and no competitive marketplace, so y'all are just gonna give us Hossa because of what, all the happiness and good feelings between our two franchises? Sure!

As much as Gillis thinks he's in the driver's seat, he really isn't. Lou is. He will only go to a few selected teams. If those teams don't give up a king's ransom(which is what Gillis seems to think he deserves in return) he will be stuck with him.

In what way is Hossa's contract better than Luongo's?

You and a lot of other Blackhawk fans are out to lunch.

Canucks don't want your garbage.

Vancouver fans need to realize they aren't getting guys like Sharp, Hossa, Kane, Saad, etc. for Luongo. If they want Crawford, Morin, and a 1st, then maybe we can make a deal. Then the responses consisting of "Lack needs a shot" will come. Well, if you can't accept getting rid of our goalie who is overpaid, a top-six prospect, and a first-round pick, then you can keep your problem.
Chicago fans need to realize that the Canucks won't make the Hawks instant cup contenders by gifting Luongo. You want Lu, you will have to overpay. We don't want your garbage (Morin, Crawford, etc.). We would rather keep our "problem" or simply waive Luongo rather than gifting you a top 5 goalie. That's that.

Agreed. Still think Hossa for Lou and late 1st makes sense.

I think there's a crucial distinction to be made between having that sort of distraction in the midst of an NHL season (Nash after the trade deadline) and having that sort of distraction over the summer, where there are a million other distractions and most of the players are off hanging out at a beach somewhere. You don't have the team coming in every night to get ready for a game with that hanging over their heads.

There's also a significant difference in the way the rumours have been handled between the two GMs, and how the 'blame game' has come across in the media.

If Luongo is still on the roster by the opening of camp in the fall though, Gillis will have seriously dropped the ball.

Eddie Lack is definitely better than Scrivens IMO. Lack put up better stats in the AHL over the last two years. Lack is also younger and bigger than Scrivens, and because of this, I think his pro potential is also higher.

You're not thinking clearly if you wouldn't give a 3rd line center prospect and below average NHL starting tender for Lou. You give up nothing from the big club and improve in massive way.

A dime-a-dozen goaltender and a good prospect as all the Hawks are giving up, and you honestly wouldn't make that trade as a Hawks fan?

Yeesh do some people underrate Luongo. Bizarre.
