Yes?
Yeah the Ducks trade Bobby Ryan for a goalie they do not need, a late first round pick, and a prospect who has yet to play a game in the NHL. I'd be willing to bet they could get a better offer from another team.

Hossa fill a bigger need than Luongo for Vancouver.

And it goes both way! Chicago is not going to trade Hossa to a rival team without an overpayment
So you would probably see something close to an actual hockey trade. Something were Hossa and Luongo would be the main parts and tinkering would be done around them.

Both are elite, veteran players, with retirement contracts. They ahve very similar value, especially when looking at the needs of both teams. If these teams weren't rivals or in other conferences, I'm sure that a trade to Chicago would be a lot more likely. But, if one is done, it will be a very even hockey trade.

To answer your question as well. It would depend on how much less of a return.

Obviously the basis of any trade is that a player fills a bigger need on one team than he does on another

Is there another Rufenach in the DRW system? Bryan passed away.

Am I missing something? What's with the detroit proposals, is it out of boredom or is there some source that says Detroit is semi interested?
Also I know I'm late but it is another great name.

Lol at people saying Hossa's contract > Luongo's contract

Both players are 33 years old. Their cap hits are essentially a wash, Hossa's is 5.233M while Luongo's is 5.33M.

The only difference is Hossa's contract ends a year earlier, but neither player is expected to play out the entire contract.

Sounds like speculation has lead to false rumors in that respect?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's been no confirmation that Theodore actually vetoed a trade, or that there was ever even some trade offer that Gillis liked or agreed upon?

I don't even know why Theodore is that big of a need. I mean by default wouldn't Florida have to move him. Clemmensen just reupped.

Lu for Franzen is a solid return for the Canucks. The Wings grab a solid tender who can keep that defensive core competitive while it matures.

Howard could eventually become the true #1 the Leafs have needed forever. Though I do think the Wings need more defensive depth over any more to the forward core.

Without replacing Lids and Stuart's minutes so far, that would be the area the Leafs could add too

Not alot of interest in Howard. I think he is an average goalie who is made to look better because of the amazing team/system he plays for/in. Like Osgood.
I'd rather go with Reimer and not give up any assets.

I just looked through some of your posts, an it seems like half of them are ridiculous proposals, even if value isn't too bad. There really isn't much point to this, is there?

Yes?
I may stand alone, but Franzen+ for Luongo I'd take. The Anaheim portion...not so much.

I can think of at least two things (Hamhuis and Kassian) wrong from the Canucks side, and at least one (Grabovski) thing from the Leafs that they will not trade unless it's an upgrade at that position. If Kulemin, Kadri and Gunnarsson (not to mention a first) were on the table for Luongo, Toronto I'm sure would rather get him then Howard, Flippula and Pulkkinen at the cost of Grabovski.

My counter:

To the Canucks:
Franzen (assuming he is in any way available)
Howard

To the Red Wings:
Luongo
Raymond
2nd round pick

Then we flip Howard for what ever trinkets we can get from Toronto (I'd hold out for Kulemin, but Mac and a pick or Mac and a defender would be cool too).

2 out of the 3 pieces from Vancouver you list won't be moving from Vancouver.

Kassian won't be traded until we've seen enough of him. Hamhuis is our most steady guy who took a discount to come here and has been nothing but great. He wont move with an obvious upgrade coming our way, and than it would have to be overpayment in our favour.

I was thinking more along the lines of Detroit gets Gunnar and Franson from TML, while Vancouver can send Raymond as well.

Why not just relocate the three franchises and save the paperwork?

Just curious, by why would Detroit have any interest in Luongo? Howard put up better numbers this year (albeit marginally) and is signed to a much more friendlier contract?

Makes absolutely no sense to give up assets from a Red Wings point of view....
