Err... fans telling me he's not going to play when he's 43 doesn't really mean that much to me. You and I have no idea what Roberto plans to do. He could very well hit 40 and still feel good to go for another 3 or so years.

I agree there could be. Guess we will just have to wait and see.
We really have no idea what will happen now. And too many reporters are reporting too many different conflicting things to really believe anyone.

Well I suppose Gillis doesn't have anything to lose by trying to hold out for Gardiner until the last minute. Then if he does back down from Gardiner, Burke will be more willing to pay more.
It's all speculation though. I have no idea what's really going on.

*checking around*

So after looking around typically what I see is one poster from a team will make a decent proposal (sometimes misguided, but decent value) then will get absolutely trashed by a swarm of people wanting Luongo for nothing.

This is not just indicative of Toronto fans, but of all fan bases who have had supposed interest in Luongo.

Still think the asking price will be 1 Good player, 1 Good Prospect + Pick/Lesser player.

He said in a radio interview yesterday he doesn't intend to play that long. It is ok that you don't believe me but you should listen to the man himself.
Also in 7 years the cap should be much higher. If he can still play at a high level and wants to why is it a bad thing? 5.3M wouldn't be bad under a 90M cap. If his play has fallen off and he wont retire send him to the Marlies.

You are intentionally highlighting only the negatives of what could happen and ignoring the most likely scenario.

Well, we won a cup with Niemi...

Mostly because I dont know what going to happen with the cap, because we have some decent young goalies and because I still think Kadri will be an impact NHL player, just developing slower.

He said he doesn't intend to play that long? Is there somewhere I can hear the interview?

And do you really think the cap is just going to keep going up? Seriously?

Ok...so in that case...

Kulemin, MacArthur, Kadri, 1st round pick in 2014 (conditional on leafs making the second round of post-season or something along those lines), Rights to a marginal prospect as well maybe (juniors) for Luongo and a 3rd/4th conditional pick in 2013 draft.

To me sounds very lopsided in VAN's favor, but if that's the asking price...I can't see it any other way. I don't imagine VAN would have any interest, whatsoever, in Komisarek or Connolly. While I don't want to lose Kulemin, this would open up a roster spot for one of our promising youngsters from the Marlies.

How's that?

I dont know about that. Burke is the kind of guy who will set his price and wont come off it. He set his price for Kaberle and didn't come off it for 2 and a half years until he got it.

Now there are several different ways to work a package to have the same value but I think once he has an idea of value his mind is set.

And Byfuglien, Ladd, Verteeg, Campbell, Kopecky, Burish.

Is it easier to upgrade goaltending... or 6-8 other spots... (I think this goes for Toronto more than Chicago... but still)

you had one of the best teams assembled in awhile when that happened. He is a solid goalie dont get me wrong. But that Hawk team was scary good.

I dont think the trade would go down but i dont belive the value is that far off personaly.
Hossa is a top player in his position with a super long contract (past when he will be really worth the hit) and coming off a scary concussion.
Lu is a top player in his position signed just for longer but goalies usualy have longer shelf lives. Factor in the league knows he has to move balances hossas health currently.

Good. Now you just need to get Byfuglien, Versteeg, and everyone else who left to win the cup again.

Your team was much more stacked with Niemi than it is now.

Look for the transcript in the last thread, but it was something like "It is a long contract more than I want to play." Worded very well.

Dream on!

There is no way Gardiner is leaving, no matter what the return coming this way would be. I would give you Lupul before I even consider Gardiner by a longshot.

Come on, VKW.

Bryzgalov's contract is waaaaaay worse than Luongo's, and he is an inferior goalie. I would rather add to the Kadri/2nd package, if need be, and get Lu myself.

If there is a definition of an albatross contract for a goalie, Bryzgalov's is it. (well, DiPietro as well, but you get the drift).....
