He said he doesn't intend to play that long? Is there somewhere I can hear the interview?
And do you really think the cap is just going to keep going up? Seriously?
The link is in the last thread a couple times look for it yourself. There was a synopsis on the TSN website as well.
And yes I think the cap will keep going up it is tied to league revenues which will keep going up. How fast it goes up could change, it could go down temporarily if the amount of revenue the players get changes. But simply due to inflation it will keep going up. I have no doubt in my mind that even if the players get less revenue the cap will be higher in 7 years than it is now. Do you really doubt that? Seriously?
I dont know about that. Burke is the kind of guy who will set his price and wont come off it. He set his price for Kaberle and didn't come off it for 2 and a half years until he got it.
Now there are several different ways to work a package to have the same value but I think once he has an idea of value his mind is set.
I don't think Burke has that kind of time this go around. If he isn't thinking playoffs this year then when?
Whatever deal is to be made out there I can't imagine it will be a "hockey" deal. They never are, both sides get pissy what they gave up or what they didn't get. As fans of a team you just hope you are slightly pissed or ho hum on a deal.
Look for the transcript in the last thread, but it was something like "It is a long contract more than I want to play." Worded very well.
This is the only quote I can find so far. It doesn't seem like what everyone's referring to but, so far, that's the closest I'm getting.
Quote:
Q: Steve Nash just left money on the table to go to LA, would you do the same for a particularl market?
A: I can't really leave anything on the table as my contract is set. It is what it is, and maybe that's a handicap for me right now as far as being able to decide how many team are intersted. There are a few team that I would be willing to look at. Florida is where my familiy is. But there are other cities and I have to think about how many years are left in my career.
That wasn't a reasonable alternative. The real alternative is to go into next season with Reimer and Scrivens. Is it ideal? No but we wont tear our team or future apart for 1 player. It has to be a deal that works for both teams.
You know it seems that whenever we stop trying to argue over who has the advantage in here and start talking about players to trade we get pretty close but that doesn't seem to happen very often.
I agree with this, well put.
However, as you said, it has to work for both teams. Even the deals we have agreed to, they don't do for us what we would need a trade of this calibre to do. We upgrade several positions (not particularly at positions of need either) instead of one big upgrade, which is what most Canucks fans had wanted when this began. We've adjusted the price down considerably, with the odd exception, and yourself and a few others from your camp aside, we still get the "spare parts" offers as well.
Any way, these threads are getting to us, I watched two Canucks fans dig into each other yesterday, and in this thread, Toronto fans are beginning to get unnerved with each other. I think we all need to take a step back when we hit Skyfall or Bond 24, take a deep breath, come up with 10 new ideas, and then start mindlessly disagreeing with the opposing fan base like we were doing.

The situation may alter the price he has set in his own mind but he still wont come off it imo.
$1.00 in 1971 had the same purchasing power as $5.24 does today.
Inflation alone will raise the cap at least a few mill 7 years from now. It won't continue to raise at the level it is now though.
Not raising at the rate it is now is what i was getting at. There's a new CBA on the way, there isn't a hope in hell of a 90 million cap 10 years from now.

No that wasn't the quote. He said something like his deal had alot of years left on it but he wont play that long.
I've found two transcripts and that isn't in either one of them. One was stated to be an abbreviated version, the other didn't say if it was or not. I'm sure someone will be able to find it, tho.

He is truculent, that's for sure. I agree that Burke will probably not want to give an inch, even if it is for the possible good of his team (that is subjective, I know). I understand that as a management strategy, that could lead to long-term positives even when it leaves you with short-term negatives.

At the way this cap his been rising...it's possible, just not at all likely.
I've got to wonder at what point they don't just...scrap the cap, or retool it. Fringe teams are spending more and more, and teams are getting around it more and more (either from the big teams evading the cap, or teams like the New York Islanders using buyouts and ridiculous bonuses to hit the cap floor). A cap just doesn't seem tenable.
No that wasn't the quote. He said something like his deal had alot of years left on it but he wont play that long.
I just listened to it, and I believe it was
CFOX: Asked about his contract being a limiting factor for gillis on where he can trade him to,
RL: I have a few years in my career, even though my contract goes on for longer than that.
I'll try find the exact quote, but the way I took it as he knew that he wouldn't be playing out his full contract, which may mean he'll be done by 2017-2018 when his salary takes a huge drop. Or maybe he'll stick it out 2018-2019 when his cap hit drops to 3.8 salary. But I'd highly doubt he plays for a million after that...

P.s. How could you forget...Hey Luuuud...don't look so sad...take a slap shot...and make the kick save..remember the Leafs need a playoff spot, there you can start to make them better, better, better ,better ..YAAA naaa..na na nanana
I had originally suggested Stephen King books, but we may need something with even more titles. Beatles songs?
Given our current pace, we would need the Beatles, Paul McCartney & Wings, Ringo's All Star Band, Harrison and Lennon solo, Julian Lennon and Yoki freaking Ono.
According to George Richards(panthers beat writer)
Theodore has refused to waive NTC, he will be staying.
Not doubting you. But checked his blog and his twitter and cannot find where George says that. His latest twit says "Theo does not want to leave for sure." Where goes GR say that Theo has refused to waive his NTC?

I would say it is likely that high in 10 years. Even if it continues to raise at half its current rate it will easily surpass that.
