I really doubt Lu would be ok with that. He is on the radio yesterday saying he wants to be traded and you think it is reasonable to wait until next summer?

Luongo's the one who signed the contract. It's not like he will sit in goal and allow 20 goals in a game.

If there is a definition of an albatross contract for a goalie, Bryzgalov's is it. (well, DiPietro as well, but you get the drift).....
Dippietro is not an albatross... can't be when he is always on the IR, and the insurance company is paying his salary...

He could sit out and publicly demand a trade. He has been polite and classy through this whole process in the interview he said him and Gillis agree its time for him to move on. It would be a huge insult to tell he he has to come back as Schneider's back-up next season.

There is no way Luongo is a Canuck next season.

Nash did ask for a trade nearing the deadline...and he's still a Blue Jacket. With this latest revelation, ok, confirmation, I agree he shouldn't be, but Gillis won't move him just to move him, or he'd have accepted Florida's offer and that possible offer from Toronto for Schenn.

I'm not saying he will move him for nothing but I don't believe the offers will be nothing either. But if there are offers on the table that have value he isn't going to hold out into the season to maximize the value.

That is clearly just my opinion tho.

So it seems we're all agreed on Luongo for Hossa then?

Or, if not that, then Montador, Frolik, and one of Emery or a bag of toxic waste the Hawks janitor found in a dumpster outside the stadium?

If this were baseball this is the Carlos Zambrano trade.

Bowman hangs up because he knows he has Gillis over a barrell. He's not going to give up a worthwhile asset if he knows he's more or less bidding against himself.

That's why GMMG can't get Bjugstad or Huberdeau for him from Florida.

If GMMG was smart he would trade schneider. He would be roasted by the fans but he would actually get fair market value for him. Unlike Luongo.

Then there's no point in proposing a trade that involves a rival. Fans on both sides will want overpayment, same old story.

I agree with you, but that seems to be a big "if". Value is subjective I guess too, you and I might see value, Gillis might not.

RFA...

Also, Steve Nash, if we're bringing up comparisons to other sports. Just resigned, and then traded to LA.

but it isn't... its hockey.

Also Im sure Gillis would just say "Enjoy the duo of Crawford & Emery again!"

Maybe not but how does he tell Luongo he has to come be a backup next season? Especially after they both agreed its in the best interest of the team if Lu moves on.

and I'm sure Bowman would be fine with that. Crawford isn't as bad as some people think. He's servicable when he's mechanically sound in his game ie. when he's not trying to be Brodeur, Turco or Mike Smith.

I agree, but I think for the first part of the season if there is no clear cut #1 I think it would be fine with Lui.

I really think if we can we should move him before, not even for us but for him, and all he has done to this team. But in the end it is still a business, can't let your heart get in the way.

I don't know if this has been discussed in this thread already but I read a tweet that said a Luongo trade to Florida is in place and the only thing blocking it is Theodore's refusal, or at least hesitancy, to waive his NTC.

Here, found the tweet: https://twitter.com/GeorgeRichards/s...29419725406209

He says Theo being unwilling to waive could be the the only thing back. Sounds like speculation to me.
But if it is true maybe he just doesn't want to be a back up the leafs should try something around MacArthur for Theodore.

BTW who the hell is George Richards, what has he ever broken that we should take him seriously?

I don't know if he has broken anything but he is the Panthers' beat writer for the Miami Herald so yeah, I think you should take him seriously.

There are thousands of sports writers out there with twitter accounts many of they report rumors that never happen.
Why should I give this guy more value than 1 of them?
Don't get me wrong, I just want this to be over but I just don't see this guy as a reputable source.
