1:19 p.m. - FLYERS RE-SIGN LEIGHTON
The first signing of the day by the Flyers is (G) Michael Leighton.
"I'm very happy to be back in Philly," said Leighton. "This is where I want to be and I'm excited about the team we have this year. I look forward to the opportunity to continue working with Jeff Reese."
Leighton spent the 2011-12 season with the Flyers' AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, posting a 28-26-1 record with a 2.58 goals-against average and .918 save percentage with two shutouts.
The 31-year-old Leighton helped lead the Flyers to the 2010 Stanley Cup Final by going 8-4 with a 2.95 GAA in 16 starts. In the Eastern Conference Final series vs. Montreal, he posted a 1.40 GAA, .950 save percentage and three shutouts in the five-game series. He was the first Flyer and the 13th goaltender in NHL history to have 3 shutouts in a series.

It's not a stupid signing, Leighton is a back-up. 900k is OK. 1,55M is not.
I guess the only question is, was Leighton really likely to sign somewhere at noon? Could we have waited to see what the market looked like for guys like Mason, Hedburg, etc.--who might be a bit more reliably as backups.
