Value?

Would you trade the 2013 and 2014 1st round picks plus one of the upcoming 2nd round picks to Dallas for Jamie Benn? Would Dallas even entertain this offer? I'm a big fan of Benn and would love to see him on the Habs. He is still unsigned, but I don't expect the Stars to trade him, but this offer may catch their attention.

I'm of the mind set that the Habs should be keeing their picks and trying (or waiting) to get out from under the unwanted contracts they do have. But Benn is an exceptional player, and probably better than a player we would draft. I also think he would improve the team so the picks lost are not high.

What do you think?

That would give us a sick 1-2 left wing duo

Probably a 2nd pick, or the combination of a grinding 4th liner and a 3rd pick.

hmmmmm ..interesting. but i don't know if id be ready to give 1st rounders.
especially next year is supposed to be an amazing draft year.
i don't think habs will make the playoffs next year either so our draft
will be in the early picks.

Dallas just signed a couple of old guys so they believe in their chances for this year. NO WAY they do that trade!

He was a winger when he entered the NHL, he's playing at centre now and it seems like that's going to be his long-term position.

Subban is easily worth way more then both of those 2 players.

And where is that coaching staff now? He shouldn't of got benched, Subban at his worst is more skilled than any D we have.

Yeah he had to be benched, like Kostitsyn and Radulov had to be benched in Nashville. A reality check for a young player is a good thing, once in a while.

But, did you miss what he said, aside from that ?

Do you think Subban is worth more than Lucic AND Bergeron together ? That would be funny

I love PK, but let's say, in an imaginary world, that Chiarelli went berserk and offered Lucic AND Bergeron for Subban, damn, that would be a huge steal. Our D would suck mightily next year, but our forward situation would become ridiculous

Huh? Subban, to my knowledge, hasn't done anything remotely close to what those two have done... very poor example.

After the season that has just ended and a complete overhaul of the management team I think the last thing the GM wants to contemplate is trading the future away. The Habs haven't finished this low in the standings since pre-expansion (1967) days.So if one looks at how most teams play the next season the Habs could be in for a similar finish until help arrives from their system. Thus giving up what could be very high draft choices like Toronto did when they signed Kessel from Boston isn't a wise move for a rookie GM in Montreal.Actually it would be a horrible gamble to take unnecessarily on Bergevin's part and one I'm positive he'd consider if the player was Wayne Gretzky or Mario Lemieux in their prime,as that's impossible he won't consider it.The Habs aren't going to gamble their future away,Bergevin has brought in the best hockey minds to help him make the smartest choices in building a Championship team in Montreal. No more quick fixes are in the plans, just solid well thought out decisions,so that step by step the Habs get stronger and rid themselves of contracts that are crippling the team right now.

Benn is 23 years old and is already a top line player. He would be a huge part of the future, not gambling away the future. I don't think the Habs will be as low in the standigs as this past season, but if you do than I can understand the hesitation. But I don't think these picks will be high, and mid to low firsts are definitely worth giving up for him.

What would it take for the habs to get Schultz from Washington? Or maybe a Lydman from Ana. Thoughts?

Benn is definitely a great player and hard worker, but to lose a Galchenyuk,Shinkaruk or possibly MacKinnon or Jones, the Montreal media would be calling for heads to roll.I want to call a stop to the quick fix mentality that have mired the Habs in futile attempts at Stanley Cup runs. That may have happened in the past but teams now have four grueling best of seven game series that doesn't allow teams without depth throughout their system to last until the end. Most teams need quality depth in goal which wasn't the case in the 70's and 80's,to say nothing about the size of forwards and defencemen. The smaller players after exhibition, regular season and finally the Holy Grail need more than the Hockey Gods on their side not to mention the almighty Zebras and the ill-timed bad call, that changed the final outcome.Yes its time to take the guess work out and use the grey matter to the best of their ability to win.

Looking for comments on Clayton Stoner LD, 6.03' 225 lbs of the Wild. Anybody knows enough about to say whether he'd be a good fit for our D and whether it's a realistic trade target? Sure has a pretty awesome name

With the Nash trade I'd also take look at David Savard RD, 6.02' 219 lbs. Not sure where he fits with Tim Erixon in.

Sure, on the 4th line behind Desharnais, Plekanec and Eller? Or on wing with Gomez?

We could also play him in the stands when Galchenyuk will be NHL ready.

The bottom line is that Brassard isn't what we need at all.

I'd put him on the wing with Eller and on the other wing, Leblanc or Moen.

Brassard? Sure at a fair price but that won't happen. CLB has nothing now. Several top 9 forwards but no legit centers or wingers. They need brassard badly.
