Guess you forgot the other part about that good memory. It was his last game in Montreal forcing a trade to Colorado where he would become a constant pain in our backside and beat the Wings that season after our NHL record in wins to win a 96' cup. Think Drapes got a hat-trick if I remember right.

Fixed the video for you, didn't watch it before so guess I will now find out if Drapes did do that.

*way off on the Drapes call could swear he scored a hat-trick in a blowout against the Habs at some point.

We could have 1-2 Cups more, if we had not won that game.

I love the bookends of the rivalry with Roy...the embarassing loss in Montreal and the fall out with Tremblay and ownership and then you had Game 7 in the '02 Western Finals...another epic blowout.

I've said it several times...Lemieux's hit caused the rivalry with the Avs to boil over but the real villian all those years was Patrick Roy.

Absolutely, he was just so, so easy to hate. There was just something about the guy and his face that brought the blood of Wings fans to a boiling point. The best part of that 2002 game 7 blow out was that it was happening to Patrick friggen Roy, I was laughing my ass off and cheering like a lunatic as the goals added up on him.

I just got Roy's biography, can't wait to read it.

PS. #1. Am I allowed to say that as a Red Wing fan?

PS. #2. Does it help that I've read Propert's?

Nothing wrong with reading about a rival...it's not really a rivalry if you don't know anything about the other guy. He was an odd figure but was also one of the greats...there is something fascinating about him.

I remember that game Like it was yesterday. Being from Canada I watched the game with 4 of my buddies all dye hard Hab fans. I was the only Wing fan and I had bets going with all of them. All I can say is I had one hell of a night giving it to them.

Maybe not.
Maybe we needed Draper to get his face smashed in and McCarty and Shanny to kick Avalanche ass to get over the top

What was it that Patrick said to the management staff when he went to the bench?

Russian 5 were absolutely amazing. Has there ever been a better 5 man unit in the NHL. I'm thinking no.

He said to the team president "It's my last game in Montreal,"

Agreed. It's hard to believe after the fact that an 11-0 blowout was perhaps the most consequential game of this era for the Red Wings.
