Thank you for that HS... I seriously teared up a little.

My love for this team is almost a cause for concern

I miss being in Winnipeg too.

Thinking seriously about returning despite the high taxes and the mosquitos.

I haven't seen a mosquito in a good 2 years.

And Wheeler's goal makes me tear up too, you're all not alone haha.

The Real Guardian wouldn't complain about paying his fair share. James Mac would have been happy to help keep his city in good shape.

With having family in Calgary and elsewhere in AB, I can assure you that the mosquitoes have been worse there than in Winnipeg for the last few years. At times much worse ... non-existent in Winnipeg, then out to Calgary and can't have a conversation outside with doing the swat-and-dance.

The taxes I can't help you with.

I'm pretty sure that the taxes in Manitoba haven't gone up to the extent that they have in other areas of Canada, and taxes here aren't really that bad by comparison. I mean obviously Alberta with its 0% PST is an anomaly, but otherwise, it's supposedly fairly competitive.

As for mosquitos, I don't know what Taz Stuart is doing, but he's doing a very good job. I haven't seen too many dragonflies yet this year and even so, it's the third year in a row I've not really had to deal with them. At least within the city, it's probably not as good out at the lake. Then again, I don't wake up early in the morning to do gardening so maybe I'm just missing them when they're at their worst.

Glad to see Wheeler likes it here. Winnipeg has a bad rep.

Taxation and tax law is my bread and butter from university...

In general, Manitoba has the third or fourth best tax rates in the country when you average across personal, consumer and corporate tax rates. Only Alberta and Saskatchewan are (slightly) better. This reflects the general business boom in western Canada vs. stagnation in the eastern provinces.

Manitoba has the second highest prov'l tax rate for high-income earners over $150,000. So yeah its pretty high if you are making a lot of money. But the prov'l gov't is NDP so not really a surprise there. Only Nova Scota is taxing high-income earners more. Ontario announced they are jacking up their tax rate on the rich, as well so leave it to Comrade McGuinty to re-define redistribution.

Conversely, Manitoba taxes its middle-income earners less than every other Western province except for Alberta. So that benefits more of the population.
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/fq/txrts-eng.html.

For consumer taxes, Manitoba has the third lowest, behind Alberta and Saskatchewan. 7% PST and 5% GST (tied with BC which sneakily combined the two as HST in order to assess tax on more transactions). All 4 western provinces (I'm counting Manitoba as western) have better consumer tax rates than anywhere down east.
http://www.smallbizottawa.ca/2011/12...d-territories/.

Manitoba has the best tax rate for small business. It's only 0% if your under x-number of employees, don't know what figure you guys use. That is pretty outstanding for small-biz and entrepreneurs. Perhaps explains your downtown revitalization? Just a guess. Alberta and Quebec may have better rates for some industries but they don't have tax agreement with CRA over corporate taxes so no direct reporting to view.

Meh, Calgary is just an expanded version of Winnipeg..never really understood the hype in Calgary to be honest.

Winnipeg will always be home to me, but "personal reasons" have made me not wanting to go back there.

LOL, considering the time on a Saturday night that it was posted, it could have been a drunk tweet.

Hopefully he was on dry land.

The way he goes off on Curren$y on the next tweet definitely makes it seem like he was in an altered state of mind

I remember you trying to talk us all of the ledge.....or perhaps a better way to describe it is telling us to put down the pitch forks and torches. some serious overreaction early in the season.
