I remember you trying to talk us all of the ledge.....or perhaps a better way to describe it is telling us to put down the pitch forks and torches. some serious overreaction early in the season.
I did say it a few times yes
Here's a little excerpt from one of my PGT summaries:
"Wheeler- He's still struggling obviously, fumbled the puck on a few occasions which really were at unfortunate times in the game. But I did like the way he held up to make the pass to Little for the tieing goal. I've said it before, but he is better than what we're seeing."
I'm glad to see we're all on the same page about Wheels. He's one of my 3 favourite Jets, along with Bogo and Burmi. Here's hoping he never puts on another jersey!
Wheeler was my favorite Jet from the start. I have no idea why. I didn't have any experience with the way he played for me to come to that conclusion. I remember being in the kitchen when I made this crucial decision. In all fairness, I didn't start watching hockey until December.

Yea you were all over it and said the same thing on more than one occasion. I remember well because it gave me some faint hope at the time
Lynk Once Wheels caught on fire is it safe to assume he was playing better than he had in Atlanta? I only say that because He was 20 points better than his previous career high? here's hoping their is more where that came front his year.
As a long time Coyotes fan, I hated what Wheeler did to the Coyotes when he used a CBA clause to become a free agent. When the Jets returned, I still didn't like him, just on principle. By December, he was my favourite Jet. Hope he is here long term.
Here's hoping that Wheeler can pick up where he left off in the second half of the season last year. He might have tired out a bit at the end, but IMO, he was carrying the team for a long stretch after Christmas.
That's what I liked best about Wheeler last year. I can't say what actually goes on in the dressing room because I don't know, but watching Wheeler do an interview where you could tell that he wasn't happy with the play of the team, or hearing him say that effort wasn't enough and that the team had to win, or seeing him rallying the team last year really made me a big fan of his.
I felt like there were long stretches last year after Wheeler got out of his early funk that he was the emotional leader out there.

C'mon, that's just agent stuff. The kid is a kid and gets advised by the agent, 18 year old kids don't sit at home and cook up ways to exploit labour laws. I';m sure you know all this.

If I had a way of increasing my salary and not working somewhere irrelevant I wouldn't use that option... No way. You should have loyalty to the team that picks your name like you are a choice cut of meat at the butchers and you owe nothing to.

Serious about having the right to make as much money as you can for your labour. Free marker.
Not serious about showing loyalty to someone that picks the name of a minor and holds them in servitude until a given age. This is one reason that I am happy about the KHL. It helps with the checks and balances, much like the WHL did in the 70's to give players a fair working wage. I just wish the KHL would take on more NA's.

I agree in principle but have trouble feeling passionate about getting a "fair working wage" for someone whos minimum in the ahl is more then i make and whos minimum in the nhl is over 10 times my salary.
And it was the wha not whl unless a junior league decided to start cutting big checks.
There really is no reason why a guy with Wheeler's size, speed and hands can't dominate in the NHL. I mean, all he might have lacked was first line minutes and some confidence. he's never had that opportunity until he landed in Winnipeg, and we're starting to see his turnaround.
Bold predictions for 2012-2013:
1. Leads the Jets in points
2. Top 10 NHL scorer
Jets vs Blues in February. My 3rd Jets game but my first in Winnipeg since 1995.
Jets are down 2-0. Wheeler gets 2 goals. After his second, there's a standing ovation that lasts for a full minute.
Third period and every time Wheeler's on the ice, fans are going nuts. Cheering when he has the puck, chanting "Whee-ler! Whee-ler!"
Its probably the best Jets moment I've witnessed since Hawerchuk scored vs the Oilers during The Popcorn Playoffs of yesteryear.
If Wheeler's smart, he stays in Winnipeg. He'll be the fan favourite and, surrounded by the right pieces, will be a top 20 forward.

I've been watching these lately, definitely beats sitting around counting the days till the Jets start playing again...

So far so good!
My guess right now is that next off-season the Jets lock down Bogosian and Wheeler for a healthy term. And there will be celebrations throughout the Jets kingdom, and all will be well.
Awesome thread guys. I got all "awshucksiloveyouguys" reading it
Blake Wheeler's tweet is how I feel sometimes when I'm out of the city for long periods of time (atm I divide my time pretty evenly with Winnipeg, Calgary and Montréal)
But doesn't matter where I am - I'm a Jets fan 1st.
One thing some of you might not know is Wheeler had a down year in something... Shooting percentage... It was his lowest yer at 8.17%.
His increasement in shots this year can mostly be considered due to an increasement in TOI; so, his low numbers this year can mostly be accounted by poor puck luck. His shooting percentage over the previous 3 has been 10.06, 11.32 and 14.00 (obviously last one is a tad high for him)...
Looking at an average of arround 11ish percent he should of had around 24 goals.
I say... With either Ladd/Kane on the LW and then Jokinen in the C, look for another career year for this boy.
