2014-15 Wild Predictions

Season's getting ready to start, let's have some fun.

For the Wild, make three safe predictions, and three surprising predictions.

Then try and predict (for the Wild again), the following trophies:

Art Ross (point leader)
Rocket Richard (goal leader)
Norris (best defenseman)
Calder (best rookie)
Vezina (best goalie)
Selke (best defensive forward)
Lady Byng (best sport)
Hart (MVP)

Safe
1. Suter leads the league in ice time
2. Our PP is top 10 in the league
3. Brodziak goes "0 for whatever" on breakaways

Surprising
1. We end the year with four 30 goal scorers
2. Granlund leads the team in points
3. Our goaltending is a non-issue all year

Art Ross: Granlund (19 goals, 55 assists)
Richard: Parise (37 goals)
Norris: Suter
Calder: Dumba (7 goals, 22 assists)
Vezina: Kuemper (top 10 in most goalie stats)
Selke: Koivu
Lady Byng: Spurgeon
Hart: Suter (almost 30 minutes per game, 60ish points)

Bold predictions:

1. Parise scores 40 goals
2. Dumba sticks with the Wild for the whole season, makes the PP2 unit and scores decent 35 points.
3. Koivu plays a full season, and is in the running for a Selke.

Safe predictions:

1. Niederreiter breaks out. 25 goals, at least
2. Suter leads in the ice time (leaguewide)
3. Ballard is in the press box for most of the season

Art Ross (point leader) Parise (40+40)
Rocket Richard (goal leader) Parise (see above)
Norris (best defenseman) Suter
Calder (best rookie) Dumba
Vezina (best goalie) Kuemper
Selke (best defensive forward) Koivu
Lady Byng (best sport) Bäckström
Hart (MVP) Suter

Safe:

- Suter leads the league in ice time again.
- Granlund scores 18 + 50 = 68 points.
- We'll have three 30 goal scorers (Vanek, Parise, Pominville).

Surprising:

- Dumba stays up the whole season and is one of our best offensive D-men.
- Bäckström stays healthy and plays a strong season, splitting the starts with Kuemper. His last hurrah on top level.
- Our PP is 7th in the league, but our team defense takes a hit this season and we allow more goals; still 13rd in the league for goals against.

Trophies:

Art Ross - Pärisee (77)
Rocket Richard - Vanek (34)
Norris - Suter
Calder - Dumba
Vezina - Tie between Kuemper/Bäckström
Selke - Koivu
Lady Byng - Granlund
Hart - Suter

just the surprises...

Dumba ends the season playing ~17 minutes per night, because...
...Suter misses 20+ games

Granlund is a point per game player.

Cooke goes controversy-free.

Coyle is our most productive player behind Koivu per minute 5v5.

If Brodin takes the Norris, I have a hard time seeing Suter as the MVP. IMO Suter would need the Norris at minimum for that JMO.

Here's a few predictions of my own...bold safe or otherwise....

Granlund is the MVP (20+52)
Parise the points leader (33+45)
Pominville leads in goals (35)
Dumba and Folin make the team and stay up all season, Dumba gets the Calder between the two.
The Wild have 3 players over 30 goals (Parise, Pominville, Vanek), and another 4 with 20+ (Granlund, Niederreiter, Haula, Koivu)
Backstrom gets traded by the end of the season.
