The Breakdown:
Montreal fills out their top 6 with very talented yet injury prone Left Winger at the cost of 2 second round picks in a deep draft.
Chicago gets their #1 goalie that should put them over the hump from very good to elite. Costs them a mid to late first, probably minimum 22-26 range (but is mitigated by the 2 second round picks coming in) and a very talented LW prospect who is very close to NHL ready, if not there already.
LA gets younger and adds some depth to their Wings, snags a first round pick that Bernier nor Gagne is unlikely to get on their own, and Ray Emery is a throw in providing the Kings with a serviceable backup for the season.
I see it as Montreal and Chicago get better immediately, while LA stay pretty stagnent towards 2013 with the move but are better for it 2-3 seasons down the road. Thoughts?

I wouldnt trade 2 picks for Gagne until he proves he can play.
Id trade only the 3rd for him. Maybe the 2nd.
I wouldn't even consider this. Especially since 2013 is going to be a decent draft, Gagne serves no purpose for the stage that Montreal is at as a team right now. They need solid youth prospects. No point of having an injury prone winger who is probably not going to be playing for much longer.

If he stays healthy and has a solid season the habs get a bit of cost recovery at the trade deadline (depending on positioning) if an extension isn't worked out. Habs have no real top 6 depth on the wings that's NHL ready for the next couple of years. Especically on the left side.

Habs are rebuilding. Bergevin is doing all the right things so far, and with 4 picks in the top 60 next season's deep draft, he's not giving two away for Gagne who is always hurt. No thanks from Montreal.
As a Montreal fan, this is an easy 'no, thank you.' The only aspect of the team/organization that can be considered truly elite at this time is our Director of Amateur Scouting, and as such, I don't like any deal that mitigates this advantage. This is the type of deal Gainey/Gauthier might have been all over, but even they had the chance to sign Gagne on the cheap as a FA prior to his landing in TB and chose not to. I sincerely hope Bergevin continues to accumulate rather than sell picks.

Wrong. Mtl already have Bourque to play alongside Plekanec and Gionta in the second line. Before coming in Montreal, he had 2 27 goal seasons and 50+ points and he was on pace for another 27 goals this past year. Bergevin also said that he was going to give kids like Leblanc and Gallagher; he almost cracked the lineup last year, a chance to fight for that spot in training camp.
Also, 2 years ago, Gagne was traded for a 30 year old D (Matt Walker) and a 4th round pick. Gagne played 34 games last year and unless I missed something I don't see how he is worth a 2nd round pick 2 years later, let alone 2 2nd round picks. This is an awful deal for the habs.
Have you not seen what Timmins and company are capable of doing in the 2nd round?
In what world would the Habs give up 2 2nd round picks for someone who hasn't scored more than 17 goals in 3 seasons?
A guy who has been outscored by a massive margin, by the insanely hated Rene Bourque?
Whoever made this thread needs to look at this from a habs pOV and seriously ask themselves if they'd consider this deal for even a second. Even just one.
Did you watch Bourque play in Montreal, that isn't a way to get the fans behind you.
Gagne is on a 1 year deal and I can live with that and I really don't care if he pans out or not.
Go with Bourque and keep assets.
If he struggles, he'll still have value. 3.33 for a 6'2 20 goal scorer who can, at times can be "mean"
Gagne's first media conference with 20 cameras in his face will give him a concussion.
2013 is a perfect time for the habs to further restock the cupboard with 4 picks in the top 60. I'm Bergevin knows this team can compete for a playoff spot, but not for the cup. He might add someone via free agency, but in all likelihood he'll steer the course.

The Montreal trade is pretty terrible; one year of the oft-injured Gagne for not one, but two firsts? No going to happen.
The CHI-LA trade is reasonable, a good prospect, mid-1st, and decent back-up for a young potential #1 goalie. It my be a bit pricey from Chicago's perspective depending on how bad they want another goalie and how much faith they have the Bernier can a starter.
